I didn't understand why Merlot Joe put Soriano in the game in the 8th inning with
the Rays behind. It all worked out thanks to CC but that was not the spot for Soriano.
Ya don't bring in your closer in the 8th when behind in the score.

This is why managers are so afraid to go against the "book". Soriano was plenty rested and the game was close. Why not bring in your best to face the other team's top of the order to increase the chances that all you need is one run to tie?? That's better than bringing in some goober who gives up an insurance run or two.
BTW, once the home gets to the 9th inning and they are behind there is no possibility of bringing in your closer to protect a lead.

Soriano needed 26 pitches to get thru the inning and might very well be unavailable tonight.
Last year Maddon used his bullpen in a way that there were no defined roles. We saw how
that worked out. The bullpen was a disaster the 1/4 of the season.
