I think the other gates were narrower therefore they only had six of those squares
but gate 4 was wider and had seven. Sultan can you check me on that?

Forgot about this view that YankeeStadium 1923 shared a ways back (cropped):
I can't do overlays as well as some others here, but I tried to align the 1957 photo with the current wire frame. Picasa kept crashing when I tried to do a screencap, so I had to take a photo of the screen. It suggests that the actual gate was a bit wider. No doubt bk will be able to do a better overlay, but here is what I got. The alignment was done by making both images the same height:
In the image above, I had to adjust the lighting separately between the top and bottom halves to let the wire frame show, which is why there is a narrow split in the middle between the images.
Side-by-side (wire frame versus 1957 view):

Am replacing cappings with 7 suares--when done I'll tae a look at gate 4.
We're locked in on the location of the louver squares, arches and bottom tile panel, due to matching the other walls, so am not sure what we can change.
Chip------are all the capping shapes squares except for those you indicated?
Chip---the frames around the louvers appear to be raised above the rough concrete area, while around the medallions it appears to be a channel that is recessed in.
What I'm trying to say is that it looks like the madallions fit into a space in the concrete and the space was filled in with concrete to hold the medallions. The frame around the louvers looks like a distinct shape raised on top of the concrete.
The square louver frames---This image clearly shows that the frames protrude from the wall. The louvers themselves are clearly inset from the edge of the wall, so what we are calling the frame cannot be cement filler to secure the louvers. The louvers in the arches, from the demolition images, show they had a flange that fit into the arches concrete frame. Could the square area frames be metal flanges that secure the louver assembly?
I agree those frames look raised to me.
So are we back to what I suggested in post #5151 ????
I think that image of the renovation where they're sandblasting the concrete shows that they were probably concrete, but maybe the lighter smooth concrete.
sounds good.
Yes, those "frames" around the square louvers are concrete, and they protrude slightly from the wall (aside from the thicker ledge at the bottom). Smooth concrete would probably be best for them. When I mentioned the "filler" possibility, that was before I found those other images that showed the raised concrete edges from many angles, present before, during, and after the 1973-76 renovations.
chip, about those sections in the white boxes you drew. The ones higher up are indeed rectangular, but almost "squarish" (I measured them on my monitor at about 1.2 :1, width : height):

Tweaked those gate 4 rectangles. Right now I'm totally happy with the exterior colors.
