"Another homer last night for the league leader using a Zelazoski bat. I'm not inferring anything, but it might be fun to follow.

Zelazoski was on the post-game a few nights back talking about pretty much everything in this article; interesting read and interesting to hear someone talk about bats.
    AL East Champions: 1981 1982
    AL Pennant: 1982
    NL Central Champions: 2011
    NL Wild Card: 2008

I hope they catch on, the shrapnel from the standard exploding maple bats is going to mess somebody up sooner or later.

Maple bats only explode if they are made poorly.

From the article: "With over 2200 bats studied, new rules were adopted in December, 2008. And one major change called for manufacturers to orient their maple and birch bats for flat-grain contact."

That's the difference, these Rock Bats are apparently the first to be labeled on the edge side, so the flat side makes contact with the ball.

Had to laugh at this phrase: "new wood technologies that were recently adopted".

Russian spies have been alerted and are diggin around this new technology. They might be willing to trade some rock technology.

I was partial to the phrase: "Heavy bats were undesirable because of the weight". Who knew?

rtgf: Maple bats only explode if they are made poorly.

the first-generation maple bats from sam bat were made from choice wood and were very hardy.
bonds (who was known to hit the ball fairly hard) needed to use only a handful of bats each season. even taking into account bonds' practice of removing a home run bat from his arsenal for his private collection, bats did not bust up on him.

Bonds popularized the use of maple bats which made everyone want to make them, which in turn resulted in poorer quality bats. The bats Bonds used were from the original maker of maple bats and were made right.
