    Same First Name All-Star Teams

As it says on the tin: the challenge is to make an all-time all-star team of players with the same first name. If you're short on players, you can use middle names too. Here's a team using one of my favorite first names:

    Team David

    Manager: Davey Johnson

    Starters
    P: David Cone
    C: Dave Nilsson
    1B: Dave Orr
    2B: Davey Lopes
    3B: Buddy Bell (David Gus)
    SS: Dave Bancroft
    LF: David Justice
    CF: J.D. Drew (David Jonathan)
    RF: Dave Winfield
    DH: David Ortiz

    Pitchers
    P: Dave Stieb
    P: David Wells
    P: Dave Foutz
    P: Dave Roberts (David Arthur)
    P: Dave Stewart
    P: Dave Goltz
    P: Dave Righetti
    P: Dave McNally

    Bench
    C: Dave Valle
    IF: Dave Concepcion
    IF: Travis Fryman (David Travis)
    IF: David Wright
    IF: Dave Magadan
    OF: Dave Parker
    OF: Dave Henderson

If I had used middle names too, I would have been able to add players like:

    Randy Johnson (Randall David)
    Mark McGwire (Mark David)
    Jim Bunning (James Paul David)
    Johnny Damon (Johnny David)

But there were plenty of guys with David as their first name, so I passed them up.

Do they have to have been All-Stars? I'm guessing not since you have Foutz. All the British police couldn't beat my Bobbys

Mythical SF Chronicle scouting report: "That Jeff runs like a deer. Unfortunately, he also hits AND throws like one." I am Venus DeMilo - NO ARM! I can play like a big leaguer, I can field like Luzinski, run like Lombardi. The secret to managing is keeping the ones who hate you away from the undecided ones. I am a triumph of quantity over quality. I'm almost useful, every village needs an idiot.

No, they don't have to actually have been All-Stars; they're just your picks for an all-time all-star team. You got Robert, John, and Edward pretty easy. How about trying Rogers or Harmon?

You're missing a SS for your Ed team. How about McKean?

You're quite the wit. (And I see you changed the comment for John to the more obvious pun.) How about William or George?

Babe is probably not a good name to pick. Plus, it's a nickname. You might have better luck with one of the first names I listed in the post above yours.

You could put Eddie Joost or Eddie Brinkman at SS.

I'll see if I can find fourteen guys named Louis:

    MGR: Lou Boudreau

    C: Lou Berberet, Louis Santop
    1B: Lou Gehrig
    2B: Lou Whitaker
    SS: Luis Aparicio
    3B: Lou Klimchock
    LF: Luis Gonzalez
CF: Lou Brock... well, somebody has to do it. Or do I DH Brock and use Lou Sockalexis here?
    RF: Lou Piniella

    SP: Luis Tiant
    SP: Lou Fette
    SP: Luis Leal
SP: Luis Arroyo (he began as a starter)
    RP: Luis DeLeon

I resisted the urge to use Henry Louis Aaron (the same names as Gehrig) or Vernon Louis Gomez...

You'd really have to tough it out with a really decent player, two near HoFers, and two actually HoFers

They threw left-handed, hit left-handed, but nobody called them "Lefty".
