The DB management is very disappointed, if not upset, right now.

Right now I've got Ron Reed installed as 5th starter instead of closer per Mark W.'s suggestion. But I'm not sure if that's the best way to go. I think, pitch for pitch, closers are more valuable, but he probably wouldn't get full use of his 128-plus availible innings in short relief. And I do also have LaRoche to use at closer. Would you go with Reed in the rotation or put him in the pen?

If he's rated av or better as a starter I would probably use him there. If he's fr or pr, I would use LaRoche in long relief and use Reed as a closer.

--I'd use Larouche as LHSU and LH closer and Reed as RHSU and RH closer. Almost all your high leverage innings would go to your 2 best pitchers.

He's only rated fr as a starter.

That would be my inclination as well. But if I did that my two best pitchers would likely wind up with only 80-90% usage. I could also put them in for some long relief, but those are probably lower leverage innings than starters get.

After running afoul of manager Whitey Herzog during spring training for his increasingly frequent defensive miscues, the Spikes have decided to trade starting 2B Davey Lopes to the Cloverleafs. The Spikes will send Lopes, 1B/OF Tom Paciorek, and their 1978 4th round pick to the Cloverleafs in exchange for young infielders Doug DeCinces and Duane Kuiper.

If that's your plan, I'd probably switch your Use Closers setting to Most.

HC will sign P Frank Riccelli to a 1 year, 250K contract if he is still availible. That brings us to 40 players.

Dan, did you post the Gold Sox profile and I missed it? I've got everyone else. All teams are at 40 now. Here are rosters and last free agent files of the preseason.

Of course, this are with my own rough profiules so tha may change once uyou put your personal stamp on your team. I didn't save any data and don't intend to publish any findings from my sims (these or more refined ones later). The two teams I'm running are all I have time to experiment with.
With the new file you sent out (with all the MP's in), I don't get a clear favorite in each division. But I do get 4 teams very likely to make the playoffs, with 5 other teams having good-to-very-good shots at the last two playoff spots. But I'm sure there's enough significant overusage in team's MP's to make those results still fairly unreliable. I'll try and clean those issues up tonight and see how things look.

It is very difficult to judge, due to the overusage issues that Mark mentions. Even cleaning them up, you never know how each manager will react when facing the overusage issue. You'll get a little better result, but there will still be some question. And of course the biggest variable is how well the players sim. We all get seasons where a guy is lights out in one sim, and then is a total slug in another one. I do see two teams that might as well begin planning for 1977, though.

--That is the thing with dozens of sims vs one shot at the real season. Even if you are a 10-1 underdog if the real season is your one in 10 then away you go. I wouldn't give up based on sims until the season played out for awhile unless I was regulary in the cellar. I suspect most owners who have that little hope are aware its a rebuilding season without th esims anyway.

Post 255. I just noticed that I have Gomez still listed as the backup around the infield. Change that to Frias and send down Moret.

So does mine. It's always frustrating to sit through the current season when the one you're looking forward to is the next one.

Continuing to shuffle around their middle infield, the Spikes are sending Marty Perez and our 1978 3rd round pick to the Gold Sox for Rennie Stennett.

Mark, I'll be sending a new MP file reflecting our two recent trades.
