Hey there
I got a couple of questions about Cuban Baseball: Mi espanol no es bueno es el video primer con back to back hits o una sellecion de lo partido? Is this an average crowd for a game or was it a special game? For what got one guy a CB on his uniform what does this mean? The second vid with the back to back HR what is the second hitter doing/showing when he is running the bases and why? How can I get cuban players to play in europe? Only if the leave the country for ever? Is the federation in charge of tranfers or who is in charge? Thank you in advance Paula

I thought some Cuban players have appeared in Europe without defecting such as Fausto Alvarez (Netherlands) and Remigio Leal (Spain)

Probably, they were married, retired or about to retired like Fausto Alvarez ans Laidel Chapelli (Italy). Alexei was able to leave because he has a dominican wife. He went there with his wife and never cameback. It will be interesting to see if Alexei wants to go back to Cuba to visit and the cuban government response. Alexei has lost all his rights as a cuban if we can say we have rights. He has to request a visa to enter Cuba. Nobody is allowed to leave freely. If this is the case, there will be be nobody left playing in Cuba.

Catchers: Ariel Pestano, Yosvani Peraza, Eriel Sánchez and Rolando Meriño.
Infielders: Alexander Malleta,Yoandi Garlobo, Héctor Olivera, Yulieski Gourriel, Michel Enríquez, Eduardo Paret and Luis M. Navas. Outfielders: Giorvis Duvergel, Alexei Bell, Yoenis Céspedes, Alfredo Despaigne, Frederich Cepeda, Osmani Urrutia, Leonis Martín and Yoandry Urgellés. Pithcers: Pedro L. Lazo, Yunieski Maya, Norge L. Vera, Jonder Martínez, Luis M. Rodríguez, Miguel Lahera, Ismel Jiménez, Vicyohandri Odelín, Yadiel Pedroso, Yunieski Jiménez, Norberto González, Adiel Palma and Elier Sánchez. These did not make it: Catchers: Yenier Bello and Osvaldo Arias. Infielders: José J. Ruiz, Yadiel Mujica, Yoilán Cercé and Ronnier Mustelier. Pitchers: Alberto Bicet, Vladimir García, Yoelkis Cruz, Ian Rendón and Aroldis Chapman. Somehow Aroldis Chapman and Vladimir Garcia were left out of the team. This is a joke!

... and only one or two true relievers on the whole roster.
Meet the "new" Cuban baseball decision-makers ... same as the old ones. |

Has anyone seen any info. on the 2008-'09 Cuban National Series yet? I'm guessing Cuba will avoid what it did in 2006, and instead start the next Series much earlier so the playoffs will be over in time for the 2009 WBC in early March. Thanks.

Did Cuba play with all their best players against Korea in the OLympics? Did they play with same players who played in the WBC in 2006?

Cuba sent a very good team to China, but there were some guys left at home who, assuming they're healthy, really could have helped.

With the signing of a 16 year old Japanese girl to a professional contract in Japan it got me thinking. Are there organized women's baseball leagues in Cuba? Has any Cuban woman ever tried to make it on a mens' team?

I'm not aware of any women's baseball leagues in Cuba, but there's been a female umpire in the Cuban National Series for the past few years.

I find that somewhat surprising. Is women's softball popular in Cuba?

What happened to Cubano100%? I enjoyed his Cuban baseball perspective.

My main reason for posting, though, is to point out that the 2008-2009 season just ended, with La Habana taking its first title in three decades. See http://www.baseball-reference.com/bu...ational_League |

The 2009-2010 season started yesterday, with La Habana beating Villa Clara 1-0 as Miguel Gonzalez outdueled Freddy Alvarez in a matchup of top young hurlers.

Alexei Bell (http://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Alexei_Bell) became the first Cuban league player to hit two grand slams in an inning and the 4th to hit two in a game. He set a single-inning record with 8 RBI and tied the single-game record of 12 RBI. Nice comeback after a rough campaign last year.
