The weigh several tons each and were lifted by crane. No need for a half height door.

I am going with the FD regs - while there are multiple exits in the back, they all lead in the same direction. If there is a fire under the bleachers fans would exit onto the field.

Kind of scary that the attendent doesn't know what are potentially emergency procedures (and exits).

again, if that were the case, why not make a door that extends all the way to the ground, and not have the opening halfway up the wall?
like so.....

Girardi being honored by Knicks

I know this isn't directly related to Yankee Stadium, but hey it's November, no baseball games to talk about, 3 months before pitchers & catchers report, and I'm still celebrating my teams championship. Girardi will be honored at Sunday's Knicks vs. Celtics game.

Hoping some of that championship glow will rub off, the Knicks are going to honor Yankees manager Joe Girardi for being a generally good guy in the hours after the World Series win. Here’s the press release.

KNICKS TO HONOR JOE GIRARDI WITH “CITY SPIRIT” AWARD
Yankees’ Manager Wins “City Spirit” Award For Heroic Efforts After World Series Win

NEW YORK, November 20, 2009 – The New York Knickerbockers have announced that Yankees Manager Joe Girardi is the winner of the Sweetwater Clifton “City Spirit” Award for the month of November. The award, named in honor of Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton, the first African-American to play for the Knicks, recognizes individuals who have made a significant difference in the lives of others. Each month, a winner is chosen by members of the Knicks front office staff and honored at center court during a Knicks game with a $2,000 donation in his or her name made out to a charity of their choice.

After leading the New York Yankees to the 2009 World Series crown on Nov. 4, Girardi served as a good Samaritan by stopping to aid Marie Henry, who had a car accident on the Cross County Parkway in Westchester County. Ms. Henry, 27, lost control of her automobile and crashed into a wall in the early morning hours. Girardi, who was driving home, came to her assistance and flagged down police. Luckily, Henry sustained only minor injuries, but Girardi’s efforts on and off the field that night embodied the essence of what the “City Spirit” Award means.

At Sunday’s game versus the Boston Celtics, Joe Girardi will accept the City Spirit Award at Madison Square Garden. Girardi will donate the award money to Catch 25, a foundation he created to support families and individuals who have been affected by ALS, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer and fertility issues.

From this photo, it appears that their are two sets of doors. The ones we've seen open up top, and ones below that.

The walkway behind the wall is raised. Other than that - who knows?

We do know from the earlier construction shots (before they installed the padding) that the lower half is a concrete wall . . .

First order of business in the off-season: paint the damn sides of the restaurant. Incredibly easy way to make the thing at least a little more respectable. I mean, the concrete isn't even finished, it's just... gross looking.

People have been complaining about that (and other exposed concrete) since day 1.

It really is an opinion thing - some want blue pant everywhere others do not.

Personally - I think that the darker blue everywhere would be too much. Sort of like a dark color making rooms look smaller. I would prefer that the lower part of columns be painted blue and the upper part beige. And put Yankees logos just above the blue as was done in OYS (and maybe scatter in some WS logos)

As for the restaurant - they used some real industrial strength sealer on that concrete - it almost feels like glass. So paint would have a real hard time sticking to and would eventually peel off. This is probably why they used a plastic wallpaper-type material on the blue pen walls. But this would not hold up well where fans can pick at it.

Sulton, thanks for posting . .

. . we can clearly see that there is a concrete wall with a notch on top that does not go down to the ground. Also, the walkway behind the wall (yellow line) raises in the middle to afford a view of the field.

So I still think that it is an emergency escape hatch.

I have expressed my disgust with the thick, metal, railings down every signal isle at the NYS. I think if they removed them, it would "open" up the place a little bit. Someone on here suggested that it is a New York City law to have railings down each isle. I wholeheartedly disagree because MSG does not have them, and the RYS did not have them in the low levels.

I'm sure there's a difference between new construction and buildings that were open before any regulations were put into place.

True. I didn't think of that. Maybe they can grandfather NYS into the old regulations?

Hey guys. I was watching Yankee magazine this evening and I noticed the railing behind Nancy Newman was painted dark blue. I'm not sure, but was it painted like that before or is that something they just did?

Probably too late for that - even so it would be hard to convince the Buildings Dept to grandfather a new building - grandfathering is for existing buildings.

Plus when you see the pic above, you can barely see the railings.

This is the railing on the bleacher concourse behind the batters eye seats. It was painted blue after the Cubs series (along with the white concession sign background and the top of the Bleacher Cafe) to help the batters see the ball better. Torward the end of the season, the paint was scratched off in a lot of places.
