Cooler Uniforms: Yankees or Phillies?

Even though I am a big "Yankee Hater" I have to give their uniforms a thumbs up. Mostly in terms of consistency. I admire that they have never ever wavered or used "alternatives," and that they have never used names on the back.

I absolutely loathe the alternative jersey trend in pro football and pro baseball. I admire teams that settle on one strong design and then never change.

Also, I like the classic look the Phillies have been using of late. Those unis look sharp on the game's biggest stage, the World Series. I'm glad they are not wearing that alternative blue cap. The only complaint I have is the numerals, they look like old computer numerals or something. Like something out of Tron or Commodore 64, lol.

But I am going to vote for the Phillies, they look sharp.

While the Phillies look sharp, I think you have to go with the Yankees whether you like the team or not. It is classic all the way. Like you said at the top, they haven't waivered over the years. There is something grandly poetic that the Yankees of today are wearing basically the same uni of the great Yankees of all time.

I like the current trend of alternate uniforms/special jerseys worn once a week, etc. The main thing I don't really like is the socks. I prefer the style with the stripes at the top, like the Red Sox, Orioles etc had back in the '60s.

I care something about uniforms, but I don't particularly like either of these kits.

I have to agree with you there. It is pretty cool. Even if I am not a Yankees fan myself. I hope that doesn't tarnish my "Yankee Hater" reputation, lol.

personally I think the Yanks are the best....except honestly their road unis (with the piping on the sleeve looked cool in the 70s, I would like them to leave the home unis the same, but go back to a more classic road uni ( bring back a knit version of their road uni of the 60s and early 70s, eliminate the white trim, do away with the sleeve piping and use the number font they used in the 50s (a la the Mets),,,,,,

The A's, for colors and distinctiveness (yes, I like their '70s gear too); love the elephant patch.

My team, the Braves, especially the road grays and alternate blues. Not so much the red jersey. Otherwise the current Braves kits are almost as good as the Milwaukee Braves with the dark tomahawks, Indian head patch, and striped socks.

I like the Orioles with the heraldic Maryland patches, although I wish the new "Baltimore" script didn't get so tiny at the end.

I also like certain combinations of several other teams, but most of them also have sets that I find hideous. For example, I like the "Pittsburgh" road grays, but not the other Pirates looks. The Cardinals have one of the great baseball logos, but I like some of the older versions of their uni more than the current.

I really don't care what the uniforms look like but I wish for the love of Lou Gehrig's ghost, that they would PULL UP THEIR PANTS.

No pajama pants.

I agree. The Yankees' 70s-style elastic sleeve bands should have gone bye bye a long time ago.

Interestingly enough, I believe the Phillies and Yankees are the last two teams still wearing those hideous things. I was SO glad when the Dodgers finally ditched those outdated elastic sleeves about 10 years ago.

I'll say the Yanks. Unless the Phils decide to dust off the powder blues for tonight.

Actually, I think the Phillies haven't even been allowed to use their best looking uniforms and caps in the past two World Series.
I really like their alternate day home game uniforms. In that one The white shirts and pants they use are actually a Cream color, much like the old Jackie Robinson-Era Brooklyn Dodger unifroms. They are "whiter than white". The trim, lettering and numbers employ both red and blue and the caps are primarily blue with a red brim and a red and white P set against a blue background. The Phillies have only used these alternate uniforms since 2008. They were worn during the playoffs at times because the playoffs still feature some day games. They are not worn during the World Series, with it's all night game format.
This particular uniform is a throwback to the 1946-1949 Phillies uniforms and colors, although the 1946 ones had some additional trim not present on the later ones, so to be more precise, these current alternative day home unis are almost exact copies of the 1947-49 Phillies unis. (made with lighter modern day materials, of course).
That uniform has my vote. I like it better than the Phils standard uniforms and the Yankees home and road uniforms.
I don't agree with traditionalists who support the never-changing Yankees uniform and "the sanctity of the Yankees uniform" position at all. Put their names on the back and add alternative Yankees uniforms is what I'd like to see. The Yankees uniform is no better than any of the other 29 teams' uniforms and as such, should be subject to change.

As long as the Steinbrenner family owns the Yankees, the NOB and alternates will never happen.

As a Yankee fan guess who I chose. Then again I like all teams with pinstripes. (You hear that Mets! Pinstipes!)

I didn't realize that the Phillies alternates were for day game usage only. Good for them. If you have an alternate uniform, pick a specific time/situation to wear the alternate and stick to it. At least you when they will be worn. Unlike most teams who seem to wear the alternate at any time, and with some it seems they are worn more then the official uniform.

I will give they Phillies credit though for both their alternate and regular uniforms, as both are rather nice.

I kinda like some teams that sometimes wear pinstripes, but not for those uniforms.

The pinstripes are one of the main things I don't like about the Yankees' kit.

I also have a real negative thing about bright red batting helmets.

My problem is with blindingly bright alternate jerseys, such as the Red Sox, Angels, and Braves red alternates, and the Royals blue ones. They make my head hurt to look at them. They just don't say "Major League" to me.

What other uniform has the distinction of looking black under a certain light, and then a navy blue under a different kind of light?

Growing up I always thought the Yankees and Red Sox were black. Then I played on the Red Sox in Pony League and was surprised to find out it was blue.
