Are you suggesting that the people whose very taxes built the new Yankee Stadium, that are standing on public property that they have free access to, are "freeloaders" because they did not/could not/would not purchase tickets, the profits for which wind up in the pocket of The Yankees' private (not public) owners?

Interesting logic. Yankee fans deserve to be happy and excited, regardless if they contributed to the Steinbrenner, private family profits, subsidized by New York City taxpayers that built the new stadium, and further, regardless of where they were celebrating!

I drove through Flushing after attending World Series Game 7 at Shea in 1986 - there were hundreds of people literally dancing in the streets. Thats what folks do in Nu Yawk City when their teams win! Lighten up dude!

Really? Because i live near philly too and all i've been hearing is how the yankees "bought" themselves the world series or how there on steroids and that's how they won or the phillies didn't play like themselves. I've heard just about everything

Hey Philly Fan

Your posts here have been VERY classy. You deserve a round of applause.

The Yankees, the Philles, and the Angels are truly the class of MLB right now. The Yanks won it all, so they deserve the number one slot.

The Angels and Phils are close, very close to the Yanks, A couple of woulda/shouldas and either team coulda beat NYY. Each of them need to add a player or two to keep them at the Yanks level. Each of them could have(should have?) beat the Yanks during game 2 at YS, especially the Angels. However, they fell short.

I am a Mets fan. They are not even close to the big 3 .

I heard that early on. I guess I haven't listened to the radio enough...lol But I have also heard some positives.

I appreciate the kind words. As for your Mets....lot of injuries this year. You guys should be better next year. I also agree with what you said about the Angels. They could very well easilly take it next year. As for the Phillies, they could still get Halladay but who knows. I think it is only 90 some days until pitchers and catchers..ha ha (Sorry for getting off topic about Yankee Stadium..lol)

World Series 2009 GigaPan Photo
Thanks for showing this, it's insane!!
Wish they had done it for opening day too, I would have seen myself!
I was happy to see the grounds crew on a float and Freddy Sez on one also, that was pretty nice!

Isn't it funny anytime the Yankees win people always say oh, but look at all the money they spend? People always use that as an excuse. Spending money doesn't garrauntee you anything and it doesn't win championships. The most it can do is allow you to compete. Hardwork, grind it out, smart baseball is what wins you championships....NOT MONEY. I remember a lot of Philly fans calling the sports radio stations in New York before the World Series saying the Phillies are tougher and play a better brand of baseball. And that the Phillies don't just hit home runs like the Yankees. LOL. The Phillies hit more home runs than the Yankees in the World Series and they played smarter tougher baseball than the Phillies. If those fans had truly watched the Yankees they would have known that they won this year playing both small and little ball.

GO YANKEES!!!!!!!

How worse can the 2009 season get for the "Met"s!!?? I LOVE the photo on that cover as well; the frieze is somewhat prominent.

No I am saying that enjoying a luxury of something that requires a paid admission (watching TV in great hall) is called freeloading. I mean no disrespect or anything. That is what it is.

Why thank you, that's very white of you. Maybe next year the second highest payroll in baseball will result in more than 70 wins.

By in large, Mets fans and Phillies fans have been gracious in this thread. Then came you.

(Kind of interesting that few, if any, Yankee fans in this forum, trashed the Mets and/or kicked them when they were down; it would have been quite easy--too easy. It's called taking the high road, Ralfie.)

World Series 2009 GigaPan Photo
OK, I've had way too much fun with this GigaPan photo, so here are a few dignitaries within the crowd I've spotted (besides the new First Family of Kate Hudson/Goldie Hawn/Kurt Russell) - WFAN's Mike Francesa, PA Governor Ed Rendell, Rudy Giuliani (still wearing the 2001 "FDNYPD" Hat), and Spike Lee. I'm pretty sure I picked out Minka Kelly in the Jeter family suite but even with the zoom it was too grainy to post.

I think Francesa's wife looks a bit tired of hearing "dat catchah for da Phillies is a wundahfuhl, wundahfuhl playuh!"

Take it from a Yankee fan from way back, when they won more than they have in the last 15 years, when they were hated more.

Yankee fans in the house.
When the Yankees don't win it all, they will ride us.......What happened to your Yankees.
When the Yankees win it all, they will ride us..............all the money, all the breaks..... all the close calls the Yankees way.

Either way...... we are going to hear it, I'm used to it.
So, if we get it either way, better this way, they win it all and we hear it.

This will be my last post on the topic, but let's take a look at a couple of recent World Series that the Yanks weren't in, but nobody talks about, regarding payroll:

2004:
Red Sox $127,298,500
Cardinals $83,228,333

2007 (The largest discrepancy):
Red Sox $143,526,214
Rockies $54,424,000

2008:
Philadelphia $112,654,711
Tampa Bay $43,745,597
