The Biograpical Encyclopedia of the Negro Baseball Leagues

Does anyone have this book? It is a very high $99 on Amazon. I saw it here on eBay for just $15 so I quickly did a Buy It Now. It should be here in the next few days. What makes it so high priced? Any good?

It's not worth $99 but $15 is certainly reasonable. It is very comprehensive in terms of player listing and demographic info though recent research has obviously uncovered a fair bit of information not present in the book. Don't use it for statistical purposes for the most part. It is an excellent part of a Negro League library, or any baseball library for that matter.

It's high priced because it's out of print.

It cost me $25 a few years ago from a mall bookstore. Money well spent.

It's definitely the best book of it's kind.

The SABR Biography Project is trying to entice authors to select Negro league players. Hopefully, this will take place an add to the relatively short bios in Riley's work..

Yes, it is worth every penny of $15. If you do any Negro Leagues research you will use this book over and over. It has its shortcomings but it is a great starting point if you are looking for a quick reference on a long list of players.
