3. Barry Bonds
4. Roberto Clemente
5. Sandy Koufax
6. Nolan Ryan

Hey Bill, when you considered all the players in MLB history there's only one player on your "All-Time List of favorite players" that you've seen play, Nolan Ryan, and he ranked 9th. But on your list of All-Time favorite players that you've seen play you rank him 6th. I would have thought he would be number 1 on that second list. Are you sure that's the way you intended it? Just curious.

My list is fluid. I don't sweat the small change. I could move Nolan around, but that's how I felt at that particular moment. My moods and whims vary quite a bit, day to day.

My top 10 lists, in no particular order (mainly because, like Bill's list, the order changes with the weather, the phase of the moon and the stock market).

Players I saw play (at least on TV)

Carl Yastrzemski
Albert Pujols
Roberto Alomar
Kirby Puckett
Randy Johnson
Larry Walker
Devon White
Paul Molitor
Tom Henke
Roy Halladay

Before my time (or just missed seeing them play)

Mickey Mantle
Ted Williams
Whitey Ford
Jackie Robinson
Hank Greenberg
Sandy Koufax
Lou Gehrig
Roberto Clemente
Warren Spahn
Allie Reynolds

1. Willie Mays *
2. Johnny Bench *
3. Joe Morgan *
4. Sandy Koufax
5. Mickey Mantle
6. Juan Marichal
7. Roberto Clemente
8. Willie McCovey *
9. Tim Lincecum
10. George Brett

* have met "personally" (not at a major league game)

you might note I have every position covered except SS (Mantle - "LF")
plus 3 LH batters, 3 RH batters and 1 switch hitter
Lincecum is new to my list this year, replacing Barry Bonds

Going with players who were/are my favorites, some I've seen and some I only wish I had, and (clearly) not those I think were the best players:

1. Ernie Banks
2. [ ]
3. Honus Wagner
4. Satchel Paige
5. Roberto Clemente
6. Christy Mathewson
7. Mark "The Bird" Fidrych
8. Brooks Robinson
9. Bruce Sutter
10. Ron Santo

The #2 spot is held open for a guy I used to really like . . . name escapes me, but they called him Charlie Hustle, because he used to play the game like an eight-year-old turned loose on the field . . . seems like he was even making a run at the all-time hit record once, then he just sort of vanished, and I never heard about him again. Wonder what happened to him.

Interesting that your top 10 has nine players that retired by the 1930s. Only two of your top 15 are alive. Does the modern game not appeal to you, Bill?

Actually, it does not. Too many home runs, too many strike outs, the fences are way shorter than they should be.

Joe Morgan
Steve Garvey
Ichiro Suzuki
Pitching
Catfish Hunter
Greg Maddox
Tom Seaver
Mark Fidrych
Tug McGraw
Al Hrabosky
Fielding
Rey Ordonez
Craig Nettles

I was never all that interested in Moe Berg and his curous doings until I read that his last, death bed words were "how did the Mets do today ?". Gotta love that
