Another game fix scandal in Taiwan's CPBL league

This time 1/3 of the team players in the Brother Hotel Elephant are involved in this scandal, include former Major League pitcher Chin Hui Tsao. One former La New Bear pitcher also an former minor league pitcher Chun-Chung Huang and a former NPB & current La New pitcher Chang Chih-Chia also get involved in the scandal.

I have lived in Taiwan for many years, and this is the fourth or fifth time (I'm losing track of the count) that this has happened in a league that is only twenty years old. Does anybody remember the China Times Eagles? A whole team was I do have to say that I was surprised that Tsao Chin-hui has (allegedly) been involved. He was the Wang Chien-ming of 2004, which meant he was incredibly over-hyped. But his star faded quickly, and he never had the chance to appear in EVERY OTHER ADVERTISEMENT ON TV for a couple years.

Now that Kuo Hong-chih has made an appearance in a 'Subway' restaurant commercial here, maybe he won't be as tempted to 'take a dive' once he inevitably comes back here to pitch if the league, joke that it is, still exists.

It does, however, provide something for me and a few friends to do during the summer, and it's cheaper than a movie ticket. I just view it more and more as 'WWF' type of entertainment. And, yes, we bet on it.

The truncated sentence above should read: A whole team was removed from the league for involvement in game-fixing.

Sorry about that. I must have lost my train of

Last year, two more teams folded - the dMedia T-Rex and China Trust Whales - due to scandals. I'm wondering if there are ANY clean players in Taiwan - it seems everyone is corrupt.

Big trouble

Yesterday I ran into a scout for a MLB team that lives in Taiwan. He's over here in Arizona. I've met him a few times in Taiwan. I brought up the scandal, and mentioned the potential death sentence this may be for the league. Sadly he agreed. I think the CPBL is in big trouble, and that makes me mad because there is one team and a couple of stadiums I've not yet seen

There was an article in the English newspaper in Taiwan today about how the fans of the league are sick and fed up with the level of corruption in the CPBL, with an accompanying photo of some Elephants players doing the obligatory 'bow of shame' for the local press as a form of apology. So, just as is usually the case for lower level politicians caught on the take, everything should be ok now. Thanks for that 'truly remorseful' apology. Now play ball.

Unit 312J, It's interesting that you'd be 'collecting' the stadiums in Taiwan. Probably because they're all easily within a day's drive (or train ride)of any spot on the island, but I've never heard of anybody doing that before. I've only been to the parks in Tien Mu, Hsin Chuang, and Hsin Chu.

I'd like to visit the park in Kaohsiung, as I hear they have great nachos and imported beer.

Ok, I just made up that last bit. But I DO hear it's worth waiting in the long line for the (lu-wei) licorice flavored chicken feet.

I collect stadiums everywhere. Japan, China (they are gone now; Olympic baseball stadiums), Mexico, Europe...everywhere. I also need to get down south to La New Bears field. It looks pretty nice. I've done Tianan City Stadium, Tienmu, Hsinchuang, Taichung Stadium, and Interncontinental.

What a shame. This league could have been a great vehicle for promoting the game in China and elsewhere.
