Hello Baseball Fever Fans,

The day after the record was broken, I put together a little list of players who participated in the record setting day. Somebody suggested I include the inning, then somebody else asked about the pitcher, then somebody about the numbers of outs, and so on. From those requests, the following post / list was born:

Major League Home Runs Hit on July 2, 2002

On July 2, 2002, teams combined to hit 62 long balls breaking the one-day Major League record for home runs. The previous record was 57 and it was set on April 7, 2000. Here are the players who contributed to this record setting / historical day:

Is that the reocrd for most 2 run homerun days in the majors?

It was in fact a new record. There were five (5) in the American League and four (4) in the National League. Neither of those on there own were league specific records though. They were:

AL 6 on August 2, 1983 & tied on May 8, 1987.
NL 6 on July 31, 1999.

Also, the Detroit/Chic. game had 12 homers, is this a record?

Two games had three players with multi-homer games, is that a record?

I was living in Windsor, Ontario, Canada at the time watching that game from a service station while the alternator in my car was being serviced...

It was in fact a record (the Det/Chi game).

Who would have thought all those people I had to swat away from changing the channel may have prevented me from watching a game that made history!

I remember this day so clearly. I remember watching the sportscenter highlights of the Tigers-White Sox game. They tied the record for most HR's in a game I think.

This was 2002, well after Bonds began juicing. On that day he went 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.
