Expos broadcasters

I'm trying to come up with the complete list of Expos broadcasters. Here's what I got so far:

ENGLISH:

Play-by-play:

Dave Van Horne
Elliott Price
Sam Cosentino

Color:

Russ Jackson
Duke Snyder
Ken Singleton
Gary Carter
Mike Stenhouse
Terry Haig
Mitch Melnick
Couple of AAA guys
Warren Cromartie
Darrin Fletcher
Rance Mulliniks (???)

FRENCH:

Play-by-play:

Jacques Doucet
Raymond Lebrun
Camille Dubé
Denis Casavant
Michel Villeneuve

Color:

Jean-Pierre Roy
Claude Raymond
Rodger Brulotte
Marc Griffin

My favorite duo is the duo of my childhood: Raymond Lebrun and Claude Raymond, on Tv for Radio-Canada in the 80's. I can still hear mister Lebrun who started every broadcast with:"Bon après midi mesdames et messieurs, bon match" (or bonne soirée if it was a night game), with his deep pitched voice. Right now, Denis Casavant is second to none as far as sportscasters are concerned in the Québec market. Always tought Elliott Price was entertaining, and he worked under difficult circumstances. Heard very little Van Horne. Jacques Doucet was very good in the 80's. In the latter years, he was just over the hill. Worse tandem ever: Villeneuve and Griffin in the early 90's on TV for TQS. Just terrible.

I remember listening to Dave Van Horne and Duke Snider growing up as a kid doing the play by play on the radio. I live in Ottawa and I remember getting Duke Snider's autograph at a mall in Ottawa when I was about 8 years old.

Welcome aboard Exposfan556. Feel free to start threads or jump in in anything that's going on if you have something on your mind. Activity has been a little light on the board lately so, don't hold back.

Welcome Exposfan556!

I live about 45 minutes south east of Ottawa and will be going to see the Lynx play host to Frank Thomas and the Charlotte knights, tomorrow night.

As to the thread itself it looks pretty complete. In the last 2 years the Team 990 had a different colour guy on the road for every series. My favourite was Russ Langer. He's the voice of the Las Vegas 51's. He was also in the booth at the final game in Montreal. I hope to see him somehwere in the big leagues soon because he did a great job.

Here are 2 more

1- Guy Ferron : Used to PBP on Radio-Canada (French CBC-TV) from 1969 to early 80s. Teamed with Jean-Pierre Roy.

2- Jean-Paul Sarault : PBP on the radio in 1969 and early 70s. Also teamed with Jean-Pierre Roy, who did color both on TV and radio for quite a few years at the very least.

On a personal note, my favorite tandem was by far Doucet and Brulotte.

If my memory is correct-it was a long time ago-PeeWee Reese was the first
tv colour comm. Then it was Don Drysdale for one or more seasons.
Tom Cheek would fill in for Dave Van Horne when he did tv.

Gus,

Great topic!

Jerry Trupiano was DVH's sidekick 1989-1990 when the Expos were on CJAD - he was outstanding and now does Red Sox broadcasts.

I have the rest of my database at home but will provide the remaining years - what I'd like to do is update my database w/ the others you have - i.e. what year(s) did Russ Jackson do Expos games!?

I've also begun a database of Expos broadcast - radio is easy but the TV broadcast shcedules come from the media guides/pocket skeds - I've done the early years - if anyone has other years that would be great.

I've been working on the Expos historical project for almost 5 years now and have accumulated a lot of data which I'm still organizing!

Also if anyone has Expos broadcasts (radio on tape/mp3 or TV on vhs/dvd) please let me know!

Thanks!

AW

So I guess were now as close as can be to the real thing.

English play-by-play

Dave Van Horne
Tom Cheek
Elliott Price
Sam Cosentino
Joe Cannon
Rob Faulds
Jim Hughson
Ron Reusch
Hal Kelly
Jim Price

Color:

Russ Jackson
Duke Snyder
Pee-Wee Reese
Don Drysdale
Ken Singleton
Gary Carter
Mike Stenhouse
Terry Haig
Mitch Melnick
Couple of AAA guys
Warren Cromartie
Darrin Fletcher
Rance Mulliniks (???)
Jim Fanning
Tommy Hutton
Bobby Winkles
Jim Hearne
Jerry Trupiano
Richard Griffin
Claude Raymond
Russ Taylor

FRENCH:

Play-by-play:

Jean-Paul Sarault
Guy Ferron
Jacques Doucet
Raymond Lebrun
Camille Dubé
Denis Casavant
Michel Villeneuve
René Pothier
Jean St-Onge
Ed Doucette

Color:

Jean-Pierre Roy
Claude Raymond
Rodger Brulotte
Marc Griffin
Pierre Arsenault
Alain Chantelois

And just for the fun of it, let's split those guys (the one's I've listened to) into three groups. I've done it just for the french side, I only started listening seriously to Expos braodcasts in english in 2002 when Jacques Doucet was seriously going downhill:

The good:

Denis Casavant
Raymond Lebrun
Claude Raymond
Jacques Doucet (he was good for a long time, but at the end...)

The average:

Rodger Brulotte
Camille Dubé
René Pothier
Marc Griffin (on radio)

The Ugly:

Michel Villeneuve and Marc Griffin as a duo. Just Terrible.
Alain Chantelois

Gus,

You missed Russ Taylor - the former head of sports at CFCF 12 was an amazing sidekick to DVH and was partially responsible for Jarry Park being selected ...

The good:
Dave Van Horne
Russ Taylor
Duke Snyder
Ken Singleton
Trupiano, Jerry

The Bad:
Gary Carter

Beyond pathetic:
Joe Cannon (might be the worse I've heard)

My bad, the list in the previous post has been edited.

Joe Cannon was probably out of his element doing baseball, but I always tought he was a good morning man. Use to wake up to him on CIQC before he decided to give a hand to his friend Claude Brochu and become a sports broadcaster, and I enjoyed his work there. So let's give him just a little credit.

You forget the guest commentator during the 2003 and 2004 seasons for Team 990: Jim Tocco, now voice of the Biscuits.

Jacques Doucet is now doing a fantastic job broadcasting the Quebec Capitales games for the Can-Am League.

Sorry for the late response just joined...

"Gus" it was actually Russ Taylor an old TV guy who seemed to be thrown into baseball.

I can remember his calls " Foli hits one to deep left .. it's back...it's back and the shortstop takes it on the edge of the outfield grass".
