A good point. I use the word "legend" in a different sense than most. Julius Erving in the ABA, I saw him a dozen times as a Net; Wayne Gretsky in the WHA and Ichiro in Japan were legends because they were more heard of than seen. Baseball is a sport of huge samples and singular achievements don't always tell the whole tale. Yes, I think Mantle was a symbol of the 50's who lasted until the time when he became a symbol of a world gone by for better and worse.
