Now Manny wants to stay with the Red Sox!? At least, so it has been posted at Redsox.com
"There will be no trade. I'm staying in Boston, where I'm familiar with the system and where I have a lot of friends, especially David Ortiz," he apparently said.

Now, I'm going to assume that part of the off-season bungling by the Sox office has been the fact that they've been distracted trying to move Manny. Is all that going to be for naught? And of course, that means a deal for Tejada is effectively dead. The last thought has to do with the cryptic nature of the quote. Does he mean there will be no trade because he will veto any trade that comes his way, or because it has become apparent to him that moving him is proving impossible? I certainly don't relish the notion of Manny playing grudgingly.

All that need to be said is Manny being Manny.

I believe Rameriz can veto a trade to any team, because he's has played for 5 years of two different teams. Though, I'm not quite sure about that, but I'm pretty sure that's the reason why he can veto any trade to any team. I could be wrong though.

Who really know the reason with Manny. I gave up trying to understand what he does on the field and off-field the long ago. It's an adventure trying to predict what he'll do next. :noidea

I don't think Manny would play grudgingly. Though he may be a bit of a featherhead, I think he's enough of an athlete and a competitor to set grudges aside once he's on the field.

The 10-5 rule is that a player has 10 years of Major League experience and 5 years with the same team, meaning he can veto any trade he doesn't like. Last season was Manny's 5th with the Sox, so he's got veto power.

So... if this is a fact, then at least the front office, such as it is, can bend its collective nine brain cells toward plugging the rest of the gaps in the team.

Looks like we are stuck with Ortiz, Ramirez, Lowell, Loretta, Varitek, Youklis, Nixon and two players to be named later. Those two players at the top of the lineup have to matchup with NY's Damon and Jeter unfortunately.
