At this point (meaning 2007), I agree, but I have at times advocated for Wake in the pen. There's nothing about Tim's recent performances that suggests to me that we should replace him in the rotation now. At best, we'd be trading a reliable for a wing and a prayer.

That being said, the "innings eater" idea could justify either spot. If Wake were in the bullpen, we'd have a long reliever who could help out on successive days, if need be, given the lack of wear on his arm. Again, I'm not advocating the move this season, but a knuckleballer coming out of the pen after a guy like Beckett is always an idea for the backburner.

i dont understand your talk about our pitching. we have the third best pitching-stuff in the mlb and you want some of them out? that i dont understand. j.c romero is very good. he is just a leftyspecialist, and thats the way we should use him... hansack should pitch the entire year down at AAA to get some AAA ip. And yes there has been talk about hansen as a starter. I would do that, so he cant sit on his two pitches and has to develop his breaking stuff and gets more innings pitched. and his stamina would be better. papelbon was also a starter in the minors. the only thing i would talk about is, when lester is ready to replace tavarez and maybe make a trade. because we wouldnt ned tavarez anymore. maybe for a young catcher or prospects.
I know you're watching, Si. Bu.

I take it you're addressing king_ghidora, Swiss? If you quote the original post, it saves some work.

What gives you the idea that Romero is very good? He has been below average this year, and he was absolutely terrible last year. He has not been used as a lefty specialist throughout his career, but I think it's time they should... that's the only way he deserves a roster spot because he cannot get righties out.

And what's this 'wake to the pen' talk, King? He's been our second best starter so far this year.

Agreed. If he's not the left hand specialist, then bring up Lopez to be our left hand specialist. There's a huge difference between how Romero pitched against left hander compare to right hander. It's not pretty looking how bad Romero pitched against right hander last season. I don't expect the tend to change. I'm not a fan of Romero this season since, like you said, he's under perform when he came into the game.

Wakefield should remain in the rotation. Synder can handle long relief in the pen for our club. Since he tend to get hammer during the second go with the lineup. Being in the pen good for Synder and he should be our long relief pitcher. Wakefield will eat innings and likely be effective doing it.

Wake's days in relief are over, unless an emergency develops. The Sox don't want Tek to have to catch him and really prefer the nice rotation of having Tek get every fifth day off. Not to mention the walks and steals that threatened Wake in relief in the past. Besides, he is throwing well this year, no push to move him out.

Tavarez as a 5 until they figure out the semi-permanent roation is fine by me.

well hansack hasnt pitched well lately...he is 1-4 now...but on the hitters side brandon moss is very good, but we have absolutely no spot for him at the moment, i think he will be traded this year. redsox are wasting him down at AAA

assuming the injury takes place before lester becomes available, i'd say hansack, regardless of what role you need him in.

by july/ august, though, i expect i'd take either buchholz or lester over hansack.

I'd say give Buchholz a shot in terms of starting. Relief, probably Lopez or Hansack.

No way Buchholz is coming to the bigs this year. The RedSox have learned, because of what happend to Craig Hansen not to rush anybody. Buchholz will end the season at AA or AAA and begin 2008 at AAA. Thats very sure.

I'd be willing to bet that he makes a start as a September call up late in the season assuming that they aren't still battling for a playoff spot until the last few days of the season.
