Your first Red Sox game

I started a similar thread in the Yankee forum.

It is a big dream for me to attend a game at Fenway Park. A Yankee fan? At Fenway? Yes. This place is so full of history, I really want to see it with my own eyes.

But when did you attend your first Red Sox game? Was it in Fenway or somewhere else? And how did your team fare?

I'd really love to read your stories.

My first game at Fenway was Game 3 of the 1999 ALCS - Pedro vs. Clemens. Clemens and then Irabu got bombed on route to the Yankees only loss of the series. I have to admit, I was a little afraid to let on I was a Yankees fan. It was really my first firsthand exposure to the passion and vitriol that Red Sox fans could have towards the Yankees. I remember the streets around Fenway, like Lansdowne street, having more anti-Yankee merchandise than Red Sox merchandise for sale (Yankees Suck, Jeter S**ll**s shirts were particularly popular at that time), and being amazed that they cared that much up there about the Yankees - it just didn't register to me before then just how deep the feelings towards the Yankees were. At the time, the rivalry in terms of fan passion seemed one sided, as the Yankee fans didn't have nearly the passion about it as the Red Sox fans, but that changed quickly by 2003. It was a fun time in all though, and I remember having some hearty debates with Red Sox fans over Jeter and Nomar, which was a good debate at that time.

Also, it's technically possible that the first time I saw the Red Sox was at Yankees stadium, but I don't remember.

Man, I think I was too young to remember when my dad took me to my first game. The first game of memory for me would be a regular season game where Boston played against Cleveland. Julio Franco was on the Indians and I remember we left the game before it left, because it was raining, but I wanted to stay. My memories of that game are not that vivid. So, I can't remember the year or what even exactly happen in that game, but I believe Cleveland finished Boston off in extra innings after we left.

The only thing I remember about my first Sox game was that they played the A's and the Sox won. I remember the ride in, and was really too young to appreciate Fenway. I remember on the ride there, I was in my uncle's truck with his friend "whitey", and he had bought me a coke in one of the old fashion glass bottles. I was probably 6 or so at the time, and was bored on the ride in. When I finished my coke, I was playing with it, and sticking my finger into the hole, and making that "popping" noise. Then I got my finger stuck. lol. After a momentary panic attack, I kept trying to get it free. I didn't want to say anything because I was embarassed, so I kept struggling. After about 20 minutes I finally got it free. lol. It's pretty funny to me thats what I remember about my first Sox game.

well, back then i think i was about 7 or 8. Up until then i watched the Red Sox on T.V. we had the T.V. with the antenna and the games were on ch. 38, so it was a little fuzzy on cloudy days. We drove in from Worcester. After paying the toll, it took us by the Boston University football stadium and as you round the bend in the highway Boston looks like the Emerald City in the Wizard of Oz, it was just awsome and you can see the lights of Fenway park if you know were to look. Very exciting. We finally get there and pay to park in a lot. We walk to the stadium and outside Fenway was packed with people. We get a italian sausage sandwich from "the sausage guy", and dad gets a program. We get through the the ticket line and now we are in. We walk around the concession area and find our section. As we are walking up the tunnel, the only thing you can see is the sky above the stadium and at this point i am very excited. We get through the tunnel and there it is, the baseball field i have watched the Sox play on my whole life and now i was there. Everything was so crystal clear and in vivid color. The grass was greener than green, the home white uniforms were the purest, cleanest white uniforms i had ever seen. I was just in amazement. I kept telling my dad that this was so cool. We watched batting practice. I can remember watching the balls as they were hit. They would yake off like a rocket and at it looked like they would just hover it the air for a minute as they landed in the net over the monster. The game started and i was just in awe the entire time. The sox won the game 10-9 over Oakland and i will never forget it.

My first Red Sox game was actually at Shea, don't remember the score but the Sox lost. My first game at Fenway was against the Angels, but i can't remember the year of either game. To be honest i was pretty young and not a big fan back then. But then I remember we went to Yankee's stadium for 2 straight years for a Red Sox game, at which point I had seen more games in NY than in Boston, despite living in Mass, but since then i have gone to a few Sox games at Fenway every year and I can never get enough of it.

my first sox game was in philly in 05 during interleague, it was wells pitching and the thing i remember was there was some wasted chick who was rooting for philly and u could tell she was screwed up. we figured out her name was rachel and we started chanting sit down rachel sit down rachel, and she got pissed. let me tell you she was off the wall swearing screaming at us. and her boyfriend kept trying to back her off when security came. i don't know what went through my mind but when park security was taking her out i just shouted at the top of my lungs (remember i was no more than 10 at the time)"F*** YOU!!!!!!!!!!" and i remember the croud going nuts and it felt good they were cheering for me. she just flipped us all off and left to the sound of us chanting "Good bye rachel!" after the game 2 old ladies wanted to give me five. i'll never forget that day and yes it''s a true story

I was four. We were in grandstand and (my dad told me) I took a bag of peanuts, turned by back to the game, and used the chair as a table with a bunch of napkins as table cloth. Don't remember it all though.

The first baseball game I attended was on May 22, 1978.

The Red Sox beat the Jays, 5-4 at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto.

Yaz and Rice both hit home runs.

The first one I remember was the Sox vs. the Blue Jays back in '90 during the stretch run into the playoffs...standing room only tickets, not too fun when you are only seven and had the attention span of a gnat.

Haha yeah, it is kind of weird. But Nomar went 3-4, homered, stole a base, and made some great plays in the field. He became my favorite player.

Too bad for my favorite player before him -- Shane Mack.

My first visit to the Fens was in 1983, a Sox/Yanks game. It was a school trip - we had the choice of going to a ball game or to see a performance of Pirates of Penzance. The decision was a no-brainer, of course.

But the thing is.... the school was too cheap to spring for even the then-cheap RF box seats, our group, consisting of about 20 13- and 14-year-old kids from the hills of Vermont, were stuck in the $2 bleacher seats - during a Sox/Yanks game. We got caught in the middle of a beer fight between Sox fans and Yankee fans, and the Sox lost the game. I don't know who won the beer fight.
