  • Revamped Expectations Thread

Well after suggestions on how to improve the last thread like this I have and I created what I think to be a better thread.
    16
    David Ortiz win the MVP.
    18.75%
    3
Daisuke Matsuzaka win the Cy Young.
    12.50%
    2
Lester or Buchholz win 15 games.
    56.25%
    9
    Jacoby Ellsbury hit .320
    12.50%
    2

    The poll is expired.

Papi winning an MVP would be the most satisfying for me.

The thing is, I strongly dislike the DH and think the MVP award gets it wrong about as much as it gets it right... therefore it doesnt have a ton of meaning. But a Papi MVP will sonehow resonate. His leadership and ability to keep the team light in the face of the boston spotlight. His clutch. His ability to adjust and become a slightly different hitter, like he did last year on a bum knee.

It almost feels contrarian to my own inclinations... but I would get a thrill out of seeing Papi win the award. It'd go nice with a World Series trophy.

He'd have to be a pretty darn good hitter to win the MVP...so I am picking that.

I think Ellsbury will hit above .320 this year, with his wheels.

Here's to the young pitchers both winning 15 this year!

I'm guessing you have no conception of just how hard it is to hit .320. You need a bit more than speed and a smattering of gap power. Just ask Coco.

It is insane just how much Red Sox fans overrate Jacoby Ellsbury. For all we know he goes the way of Dwayne Hosey.

I'd go for Big Papi in this one. The guy has been a stud and deserves one of the big awards.

It's very hard to hit .320 but i don't think Jacoby is overrated, more like overhyped which in the event that he doesn't lead up to that hype, people start calling him overrated. Which is wrong IMO.

I voted for Lester and Buchholz winning 15 for the simple reason that Beckett will win close to 20, Dicek should be around 15 again, and Wake it annually in the 12-15 range, so if those numbers game through, that puts us back in the playoffs, and we probably take the division. Just going by the average for the other guys that would put us around 75 wins just from our starters. So I voted for that. lol.

I think Dice K going Cy would be the best thing for the team...because it would mean that he took a big step forward AND the position players and pen were doing very well and letting him pile up a bunch of wins.
If he wins it over Beckett because Josh is hurt or off, though...that's real bad.

I don't think the BoSox will do much this season. I am not saying this as a Yankees fan, I am saying this as an observer of the game. I believe that you will not get to the WS this year.

                          Well let's look at precedent.

The only two teams in this decade to make it to the playoffs after winning the World Series are the Yankees (2001) and the Red Sox (2005). Neither of them made it, although the Yankees came very close.

I am strongly convinced that Jacoby and Dusty is the future of this team's hitting. Seeing Jacoby hit .320 would probably make my regular season. Lester and/or Buchholz winning 15 games is a close second though. Lester has a better shot, not sure if Clay will get enough starts.
