Didn't think so. I'll see you again tomorrow night around the top of the ninth."

I didn't think he'd be staying on the big club for long. At least he showed us what he can do with his time in the bigs(not talking about the Ks). I think he can make a good outfielder for us.

Already? He hardly had a chance to show what he is capable of. I mean, Tek and Ortiz went 0 for 8. Are they sent back to the minors?

Well I think it's just because that we didn't want to carry 5 outfielders. We have Jacoby,Manny, and J.D and Coco for defensive purposes, it'd be hard to get Moss some playing time.

i will assume you are just poking the bee hive...obviously we are not going to send Tek or Papi anywhere. I think it was a good move to send him down. He is going to work on his D at 1st base and be more marketable to a MLB team in the future. I see him having great trade value once he learns firstbase. We just dont have the room for him on the big club...he would just be sitting around not getting any ABs

Moss being sent down has nothing to do with his 3 K's. While in Japan, the Red Sox were allowed to have 27 or 28 players "active". Now that they're going back to the US, they'll be allowed only the standard 25. If it weren't for the fact that the extra roster spots existed because of the Japan trip, Moss never would have been on the major league roster.

He was only playing because Drew wasn't playing.

Drew is getting old - I could see Moss being a future replacement for Drew in RF with the Sox. It's not a bad idea.
                LETS GO YANKEES!

Who can argue with such logic? 32 is the new 45.

                  Yankees older than Drew...

                  Mussina
                  Pettitte
                  Rivera
                  Posada
                  Hawkins
                  Molina
                  Rodriguez
                  Jeter
                  Ensberg
                  Abreu
                  Damon
                  Giambi
                  Matsui

All getting old and replacements are need.

No it isn't, if by that you mean that Manny is not being renewed and Drew will take over in left field to cut down slightly on the wear on his body as he ages.

How many of the Yankee players you mentioned have as many durability questions as Drew? That should be kept in mind. Drew had trouble staying in the game when he was in his 20s, so it's fait to wonder how he'll hold up in his 30s. He's already missed 2 this year with back spasms right? Granted, the circumstances are extenuating given that it really should still be spring training, but with Drew, it's worth raising eyebrow for, IMO.

You make a fair point. Moss is going to be necessary for both of his remaining option years if we're to have any chance of ensuring that we can replace Drew for his downtime. Although it should be said that he's averaged 140 games each of the last 2 years, and it'd be 4 if he hadn't had bad luck on an HBP in '05. So he's actually settled down a bit recently.

I'd give that to him if that was anywhere near his point, but it wasn't. Just a generalization that we see all over this site, and i'm guessing he thought Drew was something like 36-37.

Even then, I extremely doubt Moss will be ever be a regular outfielder with the Sox, or any team for that matter. Maybe he'll get a shot somewhere else, but teams with payrolls like the Sox don't usually give guys like Moss a shot at a starting job.

Oh, and apparently I don't like suffixes ("need" instead of "needed")

I wouldn't count Moss out with the Sox. The Sox are learning the value of contributions from farmhands, and Moss has been on the radar for a few years now. Something could definitely happen during the course of the season. Drew could get hurt, Crisp could be traded, the team could realize that Kielty is not a particularly good player, or Moss could just play well at AAA and force the team's hand. I expect you'll see a good amount of Moss with the Sox this year. If not though, he could definitely be part of a midseason trade.
