  • Jason Varitek Annouces Retirement

As expected a few days ago, long-time Sox catcher Jason Varitek has announced his retirement from baseball.

    Jason Varitek retires from baseball

15 seasons (all with the Red Sox). 2 World Series. The captain's C.

Tek will be missed, but I can't help but feel that the timing was right for this decision. I hope he enjoys spending more time with his family, but still is around Fenway and the Sox often.

This off-season has been a real "end of one era, start of another" with Theo, Francona, Wakefield, and now Tek gone. I'll miss them, but I'm excited to see what the next chapter in Red Sox history holds.

Class Act. Thanks Captain, for all you did for us.
"I believe in the Church of Baseball. I tried all the major religions and most of the minor ones. I've worshipped Buddha, Allah, Brahma, Vishnu, Siva, trees, mushrooms and Isadora Duncan. I know things. For instance, there are 108 beads in a Catholic rosary and there are 108 stitches in a baseball. When I learned that, I gave Jesus a chance." ~Ron Shelton, from Bull Durham
