I agree. Leaving Bard - a converted reliever - out there for 111 pitches in only his second start (after showing that he had no control left) was just criminal!
Watching Derek Jeter make 40 defensive plays and then watching Adam Everett make 40 defensive plays at the same position is sort of like watching video of Barbara Bush dancing at the White House, and then watching Demi Moore dancing in Striptease. (Bill James)

Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power. If he can continue to hit .260 or so, he'll be useful, and he probably has a future as a backup infielder. (Keith Law)

True. But anyway, I do not consider myself a "positive Polly" or a "homer". Like TF said, the Red Sox are an easily above average MLB team, who had a bad September 2011 I would say. I want to see other teams without their two star outfielders and having to insert their platoon guys and even 5th OF everyday into the lineup. That's tough. If they hang in there, they should have a decent chance to make the playoffs when Crawford and Ellsbury have returned. Nuff said.
I know you're watching, Si. Bu.

Ha ha...I'm not talking to *anyone* specifically.

Just saying "Yes, I like your haircut" and "No, those jeans don't make you look fat".

Now that the touchy-feely feelings stuff is out of the way, let's talk baseball! :cap:

I guess he needed some fodder for his radio show?

          • this team is making a fool of it's self against the Rangers. What the heck is going on?

            • Mark Melancon is a terrible pitcher. Youk needs laser eye surgery because he is striking out way too much. I thought Bobby V did a nice job tonight and was the bright spot

                • Yikes, could Melancon's start be the worst for any relief pitcher ? There's a good chance it is.

                    • Call this an overreaction if you want, but Mark Melancon should either be on a shuttle to Birmingham, AL or to Pawtucket, RI.

                      • From rotoworld:
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Red Sox have been scouting Scott Podsednik at the Phillies' Triple-A affiliate.

It makes sense, as the Red Sox are thin in the outfield with the Carl Crawford and Jacoby Ellsbury injuries. The Phillies would also likely be willing to part with him for little in return, as they have a similar player in Juan Pierre in the majors and also have top prospect Domonic Brown at Triple-A for depth. Podsednik didn't appear in the majors last year but batted .297/.342/.382 in 134 games for the Royals and Dodgers in 2010.

                          • Will Middlebrook is hitting for a 333 average in 48 Ab/12G with 3 doubles and 3 HR, 9 RBI and has struck out 9 times. Youkilis his hitting for a 176 average in 34 Ab/9G a double is his only extra base hit 3 RBI and 12 strike outs (which double his total base hits)

It's called small sample size! These days even scouts know what that is. In the first month of 2007 Pedroia .182 .308 .236 while Alex Cora hit .360 .407 .800. Pedroia ended the year as the RoY with a .317 .380 .442 slash line, while Cora put up a .246 .298 .386 on the year.

Middlebrooks will continue to do well in AAA and be called up mid-year. Youkilis will find his groove and hit in line with his career average (.288 .389 .489).

It would had been a small sample size if it would had been just the regular season, he was as bad in 40 some at bats in Spring training games and isn't just the stats is how bad he looks at the plate with a very slow bat.
