do you guys like your announcers?

i listened to yesterday's game for two innings but then hadta move over to the spanish broadcast, which i found *much* more enjoyable.
over on the english language side neither the play-by-play nor color guy mentioned themselves or one another by name, so i do not know who they are. and in the two innings i listened to they not even once referred to a toronto defenseman by name, only by position. ("it's a two hopper to the shortstop, who throws it to first for the out.")

it's the boston red sox fer cryin' out loud. i expected better.

The short answer is no.

Truth is, they aren't the worst announcers (that award has to go to the White Sox, followed closely by Michael Kay from YES). Don Orsillo, I thought was ok, during the playoffs last year with Buck Martinez on tbs. Remy is just, well, not very good. I would wish for announcers that are somewhat more informed, especially about the teams the Sox are playing against and about some stats beyond RBIs. I watch most games on mlb.tv and ever so often find myself tuning in to the opposing teams broadcast rather than NESN.

True. And being informed about the opponent teams would probably also mean, that casual Red Sox fans would stop thinking we have to beat everybody by 100 runs.

I remember a Red Sox vs. Orioles game I watched a few years back (I think 2008). Orioles RFer Nick Markakis threw out a runner at 2nd base. Remy's comment was something along the lines of "Hey this Markakis guy (he actually mispronounced the name) isn't half bad". Clearly he had absolutely no idea about who Markakis is. At that point Markakis had finished 6th in the RoY vote two years earlier and played already his third full major league season in the same division as the Red Sox!

I don't expect them to know that Markakis pitched in College or that he actually had a mid 90s fastball when drafted, but I think you can expect them to know who the regular RF for a AL East opponent is and that he has a good arm. I mean they see the Orioles 18 times a season, right?

on the 2-0 pitch to pinch-hitter ortiz during the intentional walk to him: "the sox have not scored until now."

and if i did not happen to know that jarrod saltalamacchia catches then i would not have found out during my time listening 'cause he was repeatedly referred to as "salty."
i understand homerism - we giants fans have mike krukow - but homerism does not hafta mean tossing out being informative.

That's it really. I mean, this is their job: to be informed. How much do these guys make? Is it asking too much for them to go over a scouting report before every game? As you point out, you meet these teams several times a year, the lineups are going to be pretty similar. Do your effing homework! Across the board in all sports, announcers are just down right terrible.

I listen to a lot of AL games on XM and I think the Red Sox have one of the lesser talented broadcast crews.

I guess it depends on your preference. I, for one, love the combination of Don & Jerry. Are they the most knowledgeable? No. But, they are absolutely hysterical at times.
