    Garry Hancock spent parts of four years with the Red Sox, the last in 1982. At times he was a useful bat off the bench, providing decent power. He was also involved in this notable deal: "December 6, 1982: Traded by the Boston Red Sox with Jerry King (minors) and Carney Lansford to the Oakland Athletics for Tony Armas and Jeff Newman."

    He was a man of influence because he modeled kindness, generosity and service to others. Garry was pre-deceased by his son, Justin Hancock.

    Chuck Koney was a longtime scout for the Red Sox.

    BOSTON -- The Red Sox are mourning the death of former prospect and scout Chuck Koney.

    The team says Koney died on Monday in Orland Park, Illinois, at age 90. He had been a scout in the organization for more than 40 years after his playing career ended when he lost his leg in a home heater explosion.

    Al Forester worked for the Red Sox for 52 years, notably as a groundskeeper. He died in October 2014.

    Mr. Forester, who worked for the team for 52 seasons, died Oct. 22 in a Winchester nursing center. He was 91 and lived in Woburn most of his life.
