McCarthy's reasoning was that when he came up,his 2 favorite numbers were 20 and 35,but since Garland wears 20,and Frank Thomas' 35 may be orff the market,he added the 2 together.
Also,his father's birthday is May 5(5/5) and his pitching idol is Orel Hershiser,who wore #55.
