  • How long you been a Tribe fan?

    Hello.

I am a new member of Baseball Fever- been a Tribe fan since 1992, when the team that dominated in the mid-to-late-90s was being assembled.

How long have any of you guys been fans of the Indians?

Not a Tribe fan but a lot of respect for the organization. My tigers will be up against yours...will be a great season for both.

          Since 54.

What's amazing about that comment is that I was born in 1961.

How did I pull this off?

My parents were dating in 1954. Both being sports fans, their summer Sundays were often spent driving to Cleveland to see the Indians play. This was the season of Feller, Lemon, Boudreau and Bill Veeck - the year the Indians won 111 games (out of 154).

When the Indians made it to the World Series, my father's family's business chipped in and purchased tickets to the weekend games - taking place in Cleveland. My father took the Sunday tickets.

          Those were for game 5.

Yeah. That was the year the Indians lost in 4 straight.

I truly had no choice in the matter. I was supposed to be an Indians fan. I inherited that from my parents like I did my father's waistline and my mother's hair.

I told someone years ago that being an Indians fan is going to break your heart. A good year means it just takes longer.

            .
Boudreau and Veeck were gone from the Indians by 1954. 1954 was the year of the Big 3, Lemon, Wynn and Garcia. Feller had a decent year in 1954, but was a spot starter under Al Lopez.

I'm new here as well. I've been a fan since '82. It's been a lot of up and down years in that time. Most of my friend's are Red's fans since were in Central KY. I guess I lucked out.

You can't sit on a lead and run a few plays into the line and just kill the clock. You've got to throw the ball over the $%#%! plate and give the other man his chance. That's why baseball is the greatest game of them all. ~Earl Weaver
