  • Why is the 2006 team better than the 2005 team?

Why do Tribe fans think that the 2006 team is better than the 2005 team? I'm trying to see it but, I just don't believe it. Although the SP is deeper and the bench has more potential, I think its not enough to make this team better than last year.

    Plus
    SP Paul Byrd
    SP Jason Johnson
    C Kelly Shoppach (Maybe)
    3B Andy Marte (Maybe)

    Minus
    SP Kevin Millwood
    RP Bob Howry
    LF Coco Crisp
In the 1920's, Harry Heilmann led the AL with a .364 average. In addition, he averaged 220 hits, 45 doubles, 12 triples, 16 homers, 110 runs, and 130 RBI.

    Optimism is Reason #1.

The more rational Reason #2 is that guys like Peralta and Sizemore now have the first full season under their belts, and guys like Hafner and Martinez are in their prime.

Byrd's stats were very similiar to Millwood's last year.
Johnson is just as good, if not better, than Elarton.

Michaels is better against Lefties than Crisp, AND Hafner, Sizemore, et all, have another year under their belts.

      Oh yeah, and optimism.

Bump it, bludgeon it, and bury it in shallow graves all over the countryside.

You can't sit on a lead and run a few plays into the line and just kill the clock. You've got to throw the ball over the $%#%! plate and give the other man his chance. That's why baseball is the greatest game of them all. ~Earl Weaver
