I was wondering if anybody knows where I can get information regarding a former Indians pitching prospect by the name of Bill/William Wingerter. He played probably 50+ years ago. I think (not 100% positive) he may have also been in the Cardinals minor league system as well. I've tried Baseball Reference and Google and haven't been able to come up with anything. Any information or a nudge in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Bill Wingerter, a Perryville resident, played baseball at Chester High School (The Yellow Jackets) in Chester, Illinois. During his high school career, he was a pitcher and a 1B. He played for several independent teams and struck out a record 21 batters in an Iowa State Tournament. In 1952 he signed with the Cleveland Indians, and played in the Florida league. He was also inducted into the SEMO Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame. He returned to Perryville in 1964 and played for the Perryville Stars in a Bi-State league before retiring in 1974. He then went on to coach Little League Baseball and umpire as well. http://news.google.com/newspapers?ni...g=4520,4573516Last edited by Jobu Voodoo; 05-26-2012, 02:46 AM.

There are only two Bill Wingerter's in Perryville, MO and it says both are in their late 70's so I'd say it is worth a shot! (Creepy what you can find out on the internet, eh?)
