It's for sure that we already suceeded on finding our goal of getting closing and starting pitching. But what's next? Do we need to sign anyone else? Is there a trade that needs to be made? What do you think?

Oh yeah, Kenny Rodgers fits right in with the type of free agents we like... Attitude, Expensive, Injured, Old, and Useless. Can we make a list of the worst possible free agents just to make things easier for Tiger Management? Double-disapointment when ChiSox picked up Rob Mackoviac for a used up Damasco MarteIn the 1920's, Harry Heilmann led the AL with a .364 average. In addition, he averaged 220 hits, 45 doubles, 12 triples, 16 homers, 110 runs, and 130 RBI.

My Choice
My choice would be, Miguel Cabrera. If we could get him, we'd have the Pujols of the American League. That would be great seeing Miguel in Blue and Orange. We'd have to give up a lot, but in the long run (if we could sign him to a long term contract) it would be well worth it.
Thanks, Rick

I think Cabrera was brought up in a similar thread recently in this forum. I agree with you. I'd try to acquire him at all costs, and lock him up for the rest of his career. He's a franchise player, for sure. I'm sure the Marlins won't be parting with him, or else they already would have. It looks as though they will be smart and try to build around him.
As far as signing anybody else for this year, I don't see it happening. Leyland has said his roster is pretty much all set, except for some bullpen spots and the fifth spot in the starting rotation. There is simply no way the Tigers will seriously contend for the division this season, so we may as well make due with what we currently have and allow some of the younger guys get more prepared for a postseason run in a couple of years. By the time Kenny Rogers contract is up, both Verlander and Zumaya should be MLB-ready, as well as Kyle Sleeth. Add Bonderman and perhaps another young stud, and the Tigers look to have their rotation of the future all lined up. Our outfield looks to be set for the next five years (at least) with Maggs, Granderson, and Monroe roaming the vast expanse of CoPa. By the time Maggs or Monroe wear down, we should have Cameron Maybin ready. Shelton and Polanco are locks for the infield, and Guillen will have a spot at either SS or 3B for the next three years minimum. We only need minor tweaking to the lineup. The main thing is experience, which we'll just have to earn over time. Things are looking up, that much is for sure. We do need to keep an eye out for a new catcher to replace Pudge when he's done, as well as a new 3B or SS (whichever Guillen is not playing). I like Inge, but he's really a utility player, not an everyday type."Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night." - Edgar Allan Poe
