Both all-stars, both won gold gloves. Freehan hit 25 home runs, drove in 84 runs and hit. 263. In 1984, Parrish hit 33 home runs, drove in 98 runs batted in and hit .237. Freehan finished second in MVP voting in 1968, Parrish was 16th in 1984. Was Bill Freehan's 1968 season better than Lance Parrish's 1984 season?

Is this even a question? Freehan had a 145-100 OPS+ advantage, and was runner-up for MVP. Parrish had a decent season. Might be closer to compare Parrish's 1982 season.

What Willshad is trying to say is that Freehan put up his numbers in a season where offense was historically low. As such they were much closer to the top of the league than Parrish's.
