  • Sheffield Question

First, I want to say I'm really sorry about the 0-6 start. I'm an Indians fan, but I am NOT gloating, because I wanted a great, compeititive battle between your Tigers and my Tribe.

Also, the Indians had a similar start in 2002 or 2003, IIRC.

Anyway, I have a question about Sheffield:

A year ago, he came out with his "Inside Power" book around a time when he had made some comments.

I thought that book would get the Canseco-book treatment.

How is Sheffield's book different from Canseco's book?

I haven't read the book, but I don't think Sheffield is accusing anyone of using steroids.

Like slugger33, I haven't read it, either. But, you'd think he would not go out and accuse players while still active. Otherwise the uproar would have been huge.

As for the beginning of your post, HRH, you're quite welcome to post here anytime you want. You've already respectfully introduced yourself, so you've no fear of reprisal of any sort, you're a friend.

I only skimmed the book, only really stopping to read the section the decision that sent him to Detroit. The media often tries to portray him as a loose cannon, but I found him to be rather introspective and maybe even over sensitive.

He pointed to NY management as being far to willing to move players aside when they no longer felt the players were productive. Sheffield felt the management was responsible for making public how the negotiations leading up to the Tigers trade were going, and perhaps even played the media against him. He particularly felt slighted considering he had put almost a whole season in with the team with a injured shoulder and still produced solid numbers. Now, I know Sheffield has been a lightening rod at times, but when you consider how NY has handled a player like Bernie Williams I can kinda see his point.

As to the other chapters in the book, I really can't say as I only skimmed a little of those.

Oh and welcome to the Tigers forum.....and don't worry, I could have told you before the season started that the Tigers were going to lose 6 games. I still think it will be an interesting season between perhaps all the teams of the Central.
