  • Cabrera should win MVP

Keith Law and Jayson Stark seem to be on the jock of Mike Trout. Don't get me wrong, he is a phenominal player. But he is not Miguel Cabrera. The numbers comparison does not lie. I am tired hearing about this WINS ABOVE REPLACEMENT value. Who is going to the playoffs and who isn't? I don't wanna hear the excuses about the comparison between divisions either. Miguel Cabrera is hands down the MVP.

Using that logic, you must think that Moose Skowron was a better player than Ernie Banks too. Skowron went to the playoff 8 times in 14 years, while Banks never went to the playoffs. Teams make the playoffs, not players.

As ARod proved, 57 HR, 142 RBI, and .300 BA sometimes isn't enough to even get a team out last place.

Considering what Cabrera has done the past month alone, I agree. Trout has cooled off when it has mattered most. As far as his runs, stolen bases and home run totals trifecta that everybody is touting...well...yeah? Runs are as much a teammate dependent stat as RBI. His imminent gold glove award will undoubtedly be earned through his batting stats. Austin Jackson has 5 assists and 1 error. Trout has 3 assists and 4 errors in fewer games than Jackson in the outfield. Jackson won't win, however. Trout's getting the big push as the new poster boy for the game. He's very sellable, and I could be led to believe that that is a factor in all of this. Some might not think so, and they may be right. Who knows?

The term MVP is so subjective, and the history of winners and losers is so schizophrenic that I can see Trout winning it over Cabrera. I just don't think he should. Having nothing to do with post-season berths, I think if you took Cabrera out of the Tigers line-up, and Trout out of the Angels, the Tigers would be worse off. He has more value to his team.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

MVP isn't a team award, an the triple crown is not a team accomplishment. The comparison is not really apt because the OP focuses on the accomplishments more than the team finish.

Most people, even here, treat it as partially a team award, in that team standing is a major factor.

I think this is nuts, but there it is. There has never been consensus on what "value" means.
