  • Troubles in Cowtown

For all the griping about Tony Pena and John Buck one of the real culprits in the Royals stunning lack of success scoring runs is Billy Butler. Since April 15, he's hitting just .208/.271/.247, with three measly doubles representing the entirety of his power output, and he's got just one homer this year.

Butler is a two-tool player (hitting and hitting for power). He cannot run, field or throw. Hopefully we are just looking at a guy at 22 who is still having some growing pains.

I think Bulter will figure things out again. He had a bad strech there in April, but he's hit 3 doubles in the last week.

I certainly hope Butler gets it going. You look at the guy and with his size just know he should be belting shots out of the park on a regular basis.

Actually this year, the key hitters...or those that we think should be the key hitters haven't been getting it done.

DeJesus has been solid since he came back, Grudzi has been consistent and even Gathright has managed to get on base when he opens up. But you look at Gordon, Butler and Guillen...what is going on? These are the guys that are supposed to get the runs in. Between Butler and Guillen, there should be a power exchange of sorts. Either one or both should be popping some shots.

I also tend to think that when your key guys are hitting well, it lifts the rest of the team up too. You would see some improvement with Pena and Buck if Butler, Guillen and Gordon were getting it done. The other players will get better pitches to hit...yada, yada...

Don't forget how miserable Teahen has been also.

The reason we need these guys to produce is there is not a single hitter in the entire farm system that is doing anything. Well, there is couple of guys in Omaha that are doing well but they have proved that at the major league level that they can't cut it.

Lots of hits last night. The Royals may not be consistent but their games are fun to watch. :gt

I would agree that there have been some fun games to watch. I watch whenever I get the chance and usually walk away with a good feeling about something. More so this year than in many years prior.
