2012 Royals Season Thread

A new baseball season always makes me happy. It's the Royals' 2012 season. Post away.

Tough loss last night. It was a pitcher's dual through 7 last night with Chen only giving up 3 hits through 6 and then Crow striking out the side in the 7th. The flood gates, then broke in the 8th. Rough "no decision" for Chen. I watched the entire game and honestly thought this one was going to end up being 1-0.

I expect a breakout season by hosmer. that guy is really good.

he can hit and is a great defender at first. I would not be surprised if he becomes a perenial gold glover at first.

As of April 24th, Eric Hosmer is batting .203/.282/.422/.704.

The Royals are 3-13 after an 11-game losing streak. This has matched the 2006 team for the second-worst start in franchise history according to ESPN.

Royals placed INF Yuniesky Betancourt on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 2, with a sprained ankle.

Betancourt should be recovered in two weeks. The 30-year-old infielder is batting .280/.333/.420 with one home run and three RBI in 54 plate appearances this season.



Royals transferred RHP Joakim Soria from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Soria is out for the season following Tommy John surgery. This moves clears a spot on the 40-man roster.



Royals purchased the contract of INF Irving Falu from Triple-A Omaha.

Falu was batting .306/.346/.403 with six stolen bases through 21 games this season at the Triple-A level. The 28-year-old infielder has never appeared in the majors and is doubtful to hold any sort of fantasy value.

It was the Moose Show last night. Drove in three runs and made two fine defensive plays. Duffy had a good game but only went 5.1 innings.

Gotta like what you are seeing from the royals recently. Battling out some close wins. 15 innings last night and 4 exciting wins in their last 5 games. Personally I think Ned Yost has to go. He is a horrible manager. Some of the decisions he makes are terrible. We basically got swept by pittsburgh because of Yost's decisions to put Hosmer in right, move frenchy to center and put Butler at first. If the error and horrible play by both Hosmer and Butler at those positions didn't tell you to just keep them at their natural positions then I dont know what will but instead he kept them out there in all three games and it continued to hurt us. Hosmer looked like he had never taken a fly ball in his life. The managing has been terrible. Last night in a 15 inning game we were completely out managed and still somehow won the game. When they didnt pinch hit for Mazzaro for adcock in the 14th inning when adcock was coming out of the game anyway it gives your team no chance to score again. Adcock jumped out of the box on an outside strike, where mazzaro actually has a pretty good stroke for a pitcher and is batting .500 with 2 hits already. Then the worst part was pitching to Molina in the bottom of the 14th with a base open when you can walk him and get a guy with about .100 points less on his batting average and way less experience. Molina singled and tied the game then the next guy came up and struck out. Could of called that one. Luckily the Royals came back with Yuni's big 2 run home run in the 15th.

what's wrong with Hosmer? I thought this year would be a big breakthrough.

but he is having a terrible season hitting only .213 with a 75 OPS+. That is catcher production. I'm a big fan of him but I think if he doesn't turn it around soon he needs to be send down so that he can work on his hitting. you just cannot have a 1B with an OPS+ of well under 100 in the big leagues.

hopefully this is just a sophomore slump.

HR Derby behavior toward Cano, especially on gold ball pitch: Classless. Disappointing. Just hope everyone doesn't assume that it was only KC fans, but I am afraid that will happen.

Hosmer's gotten a bit better. He's only 22 or 23, so a sophomore slump added to his young age can be expected. His OBP is still 70 points higher than his BAVG, so that's a good sign. I'm expecting a big rebound from him next season.
