    Earl Averill, Jr. played for the Angels in 1961 and 1962, hitting .266/.389/.489 with a 123 OPS+, 21 home runs and 59 RBI in 323 at-bats as the team's primary catcher the former campaign.

    Earl Averill Jr., a Snohomish High School graduate and a seven-year major league veteran, died Wednesday in Tacoma. He was 83.
