assuming he wins the cf job and leads off, what kind of line are we looking at for 2008.

I think those numbers are about right. I think you may have the OBP a bit high though.

It would be nice if they had the option to start Gomez at AAA to work on his swing, but as of right now Span doesn't really seem to be in the running and the fans would riot if Pridie was the starter.

I think the CF job will go to Gomez. Span has the speed, he just doesn't have the bat.

That's pretty much it. I can't think of anything wrong for that.

I have a similar prediction with lower power numbers:

          .260 AVG
          .330 OBP
          100 R
          7 HR
          50 RBI
          48 SB

Now, this is assuming he wins the starting CF position. I think if he can hit .260+, the position is his.

Looks like the job is still up in the air, but I'm betting Span will be the starter. Better OPB and if Gomez spends 3 months in the minors they can put off his potential arbitration by a year.

              I think that's a bit too much. Baseball Prospectus projects .249 BA, .301 OBP, 5 HR, 45 R, 31 RBI, and 23 SB in 377 PA.

Not too far off on your numbers. It's going to be good.

HR's are a bit high. Gomez hasn't hit for that much power in his entire pro career.

My guess? .265/.330/.400, 5 HR's (but plenty of doubles because of his speed) with solid D. Remember, this is a very raw baseball player who'll do a lot of his developing in a major league uni thanks to New York's overaggressive promotion schedule.

You're probably right, Baseball Prospectus doesn't know what they're doing.

Pretty good first series for Gomez, especially the opener. Hopefully the Santana trade won't be as one-sided as I thought it would be.:cap:

I'd still rather have Fernando Martinez.

It will be fun watching him along with Alexi Casilla.

                              SPEED!
