  • Twins cut Pridie, Winfree, Henn, Keppel, Peterson

FORT MYERS, Fla. —The Minnesota Twins' roster of outfielders has been reduced to the five whose spots were always safe, with Jason Pridie and David Winfree among five players cut this morning.

Pitchers Sean Henn and Bobby Keppel and first baseman Brock Peterson also were assigned to minor-league camp as the Twins reduced their roster to 34 with 10 days remaining before Opening Night in the Metrodome.

Pridie was optioned to Class AAA Rochester, where he batted .270 in 138 games last season. The other four players, none of whom are on the Twins' 40-man roster, also are likely to be assigned to the Red Wings.

The moves leave the Twins with their Opening Night corps of outfielders: Denard Span, Carlos Gomez, Delmon Young, Michael Cuddyer and Jason Kubel.

    More cuts

Twins optioned infielder Matt Macri and infielder Luke Hughes to Triple-A Rochester; reassigned outfielder Luis Matos to minor league camp.
Macri has the defensive versatility and power to be a solid bench player, but is too similar to Brendan Harris to crack the Twins' roster right now. Hughes played for Australia in the World Baseball Classic and is among the Twins' better hitting prospects, but will struggle to remain an infielder defensively.
