  • What ever happened to Kevin Maas?

I remember him playing for the Yankees in the first half of the nineties. Of course because of his Dutch family name.

But after 1995 with the Twins he kind of disappeared.

Does anybody know what has happened to him?

    Thank you.

I remember Maas came in with a bang in 1990. Kind of like what Shane Spencer did in '98, but Maas did it for half a season. Problem is, he never improved from that point on and showed that he could really only do three things well at the major league level: Hit a homerun, walk, and especially, strikeout. In some ways, he was kind of a forebearer of the types of players to come in the 90s (high slugging and OBP, but lots of strikeouts). Maas just couldn't hit though besides homeruns. It was really all or nothing with him.

He played half a season for the Hanshin Tigers in Japan in 1996 (after they released Glenn Davis). That appears to have been it for his baseball career -- though he was at the Stadium for Old-Timer's Day last year.

          Kevin Maas

I don't know if the guy who asked about Kevin will see this, but here is the 2007 update on Kevin Maas. He is coaching both his son and daughter in baseball and softball, respectively. My son was on his son's little league team this year. Kevin spent more time with his daughter's team this year(he alternates the head coaching each year between his kids). He is a very good guy, who gave many great tips to the young players(10-11). As well, he still has the business mentioned in previous post........

I believe he played in this years Old-Timers game.
"After my fourth season I asked for $43,000 and General Manager Ed Barrow told me, 'Young man, do you realize Lou Gehrig, a 16-year-man, is playing for only $44,000?' I said, Mr. Barrow, there is only one answer to that - Mr. Gehrig is terribly underpaid."- Yankees outfielder Joe DiMaggio

              Kevin Maas

A funny, Kevin Maas related thing happened to me. I used to collect autographs via mail. I'd send players cards, they'd (mostly) send them back. Well, I stopped doing this in 1994, yet yesterday, I got three signed Kevin Maas cards back in the mail. I was FLOORED, and I'm now insanely curious about why, after 13 years, Kevin sent these back.

Any clues would be cool. Thanks.

How about the mail being a bit slow?

                  Wow.

Maybe he filed it away with the rest of the mail and it got lost in the shuffle and he found it again, cleaning or something. If that's the case, that's a pretty cool thing for him to do.

                    Oh yeah, very cool

For whatever reason, I think its way cool. For a Yankee.
