  • Arod visits Sosa?

I heard on one of the local radio programs that Arod visited Sammy at his house. They were saying on the program that they didnt know there was any type of "outside of baseball" friendship between these two and speculated that maybe the Yankees are showing interest in Sosa by having Alex visit with him.

Im sorry that i have no type of article or conformation of this i searched for a bit and could not find anything related.

What do you guys think of having Sosa as a utility guy or to take the load off Bernie if he doesnt perform at DH?
They could likely sign him for $500,000 as the Nats have offered.
"I see no reason why a small-market team like the Twins or Expos can't continue to remain competitive, just because it lacks players," Selig said.

I am against Sosa anywhere near a Yankee uniform, even if he played for free.

I might actually become a Met fan if Sosa comes to the Yankees.

I think that even the talk show hosts are getting a little antsy for Spring Training to start. They're starting to become delusional.

            I think this was Politics.

ARod's image in the Dominican has kind of been tarnished.
Dominicans feel that ARod betrayed them or dishonored them by choosing to play with the US over DR for the WBC.

Sosa is one of DRs Top 5 Celebs and he could put some stock back into ARod's image.
"After my fourth season I asked for $43,000 and General Manager Ed Barrow told me, 'Young man, do you realize Lou Gehrig, a 16-year-man, is playing for only $44,000?' I said, Mr. Barrow, there is only one answer to that - Mr. Gehrig is terribly underpaid."- Yankees outfielder Joe DiMaggio

I'm going to take an educated guess and say the Yankees will not sign Sosa. They could have had Piazza to fill the same role, or even Frank Thomas for that role and for cheap, but they passed on both. I think both Piazza and Thomas are at this point much safer bets than Sosa. So if the Yankees are going to pass on Piazza and Thomas (even at bargain prices for Thomas), I really can't seem them going after Sosa. Besides, everything I'm reading from Cashman is that he and his scouts really want to give Andy Phillips a shot. They're apparently really high on him. Phillips, although he's already 28, has posted pretty nice numbers the past two years at AAA Columbus.

              2005: .300, 22, 54, .952 OPS
              2004: .318, 26, 85, .957 OPS

He's shown pretty good power throughout the minors and has developed better discipline and base hitting. I'm thinking he's earned his shot, and it's a little overdue.

I do not think the Yankees are interested in Sosa...and even if they are, they would not send AROD as a spokesman for the team. Usually Torre sends a phone call and maybe Jeter does the visit.

I read somewhere that AROD has purchased the batting practice bats from Sosa...and some kind of B12 creme. He was just probably picking those up

Im actually not against the Yankees trying Sosa. For one it has never been proven that Sosa used any. Bonds,Giambi,Palmeiro,Canseco,Sheffield all have reasons for speculation. Whether it was leaked testimony, failed test results, accidently using the cream, or showing up skinnier. Sosa never had none of this. The corked bat issue is not suffiecient enough to call him a cheater because his other bats were checked in th HOF and none had any cork in them. I say the Yankees should use him as a RH DH seing as I think he still has some pop in his bat.
