...and thus a franchise turned the corner and never looked back.
"After my fourth season I asked for $43,000 and General Manager Ed Barrow told me, 'Young man, do you realize Lou Gehrig, a 16-year-man, is playing for only $44,000?' I said, Mr. Barrow, there is only one answer to that - Mr. Gehrig is terribly underpaid."- Yankees outfielder Joe DiMaggio

For me it was the night that they won game 6 of the 1996 WS. A long period of waiting ended for me...

Why not added onto that question and add "What's the best night you experience during your lifetime?"

For me it was Aaron Boone's walk off vs the Sox in the 2003 ALCS game 7

Partly because I was there, and had spent like 600$ to get crappy seats. And it was worth every penny. And my friend who I was there with called the homerun right before the pitch lol

I was at the Boone game too and it was my most memorable Yankee experience. Part of it had to do with the fact that I was there with my father who is a life long Red Sox fan.

Your father a Red Sox fan? Man, he must be disappointed in you...

And you two can still get along with each other?

Could the greatest also be one of the very saddest? Anyway, this one ranks right up there on the richter scale of things which caused the Earth to move:

i gotta go with Game 6 1996 WS vs ATL.

first yankees WS of my lifetime and it launched the Torre dynasty. Nothing has been sweeter than that first one. Girardi with the rbi triple. Jimmy Key started. Mariano was the bridge to Wetteland. Boggs on the horse. Jeter's first title.

I have to go with Boone's home run personally. Because I remember staying up and watching it. It was a great feeling, because I was nervous the whole game til that moment when I just was able to jump up and celebrate. It also happens to be one of the, if not the last great Yankee post season moment.

But historically it has to be Don Larsen's perfect game. At that point the Yankees achieved things never thought of before and Larsen's perfect game was basically the icing on the cake. Also the fact that Larsen didn't pitch so great in game 2 that WS also kind of cements it.
