I do want this for years. I would not mind. The guy is underachieving and is costing us a shipload of money.

But then we can release almost the complete team....

Must be nice to overpay for every free agent and then if it doesnt work out, just release them, eat the money, and buy the next hired gun.

Whether you release him or not you are going to pay his salary so his salary is a sunk cost. The real question is who replaces him if you do?

I think if you have read some of my earlier posts, that you will know that I never liked the way the Yankees obtain(ed) their players.

Don't the Yankees need to pay only a part of his remaining salary?

Who to replace him? Good question. Maybe platooning the players that did play 1B this year. I know it is far from perfect, but Giambi's defense is not sublime either.

I cant imagine Shelley Duncan and/or Morgan Ensberg doing any worse than Giambi.

Jason Giambi's batting average on balls in play is an atrocious .086. Take away the times he's faced Mike Timlin and its less than half of that...they guy is a total mess....he looks awful at the plate and his fielding (though I dont think 1b is the most important posistion to field a gold glover at) is far below average.

Giambi has 5 hits on the season, 3 of them off of Mike Timlin. If they dont release him, he should at the very least be benched for a bit. His BA on balls in play in .040 if it werent for Mike Timlin

What the Yankees need to do is bench Giambi altogether and call up Shelley Duncan and see what he can do with some regular ABs - he is raking at AAA.

I cant disagree with that...the only thing is that he clogs up a roster spot so thats why I might consider releasing him...but he needs to benched at the very least...he is almost litterally, an automatic out...his OBP sucks too.

It's his last year on his contract, (finally) I think they are going to ride out this year see what they can get out of him then that's it. Then next year try and get Tex. They got to pay for him anyway, I think we are stuck with him for the season. I always hope that someone comes along and Wally Pips him but that's wishful thinking.

No, we`re all frustrated with him but we`re less than a month into the season. They`re paying his salary anyway. They should give him some more time.
