The Pressure of NY City

I think it's effected them for a while in that it has sapped out a lot of the joy in winning. It's almost as if it's become a relief to win, and I think we started seeing this around 2000 when the Yankees beat the Mets and there were players on the Yankees that talked about it as more of a relief. I think this is partly why the offense has been disappearing in the postseason, in that they are locking up because of the pressure to win, and I think it's why the team has been able to come back from some poor starts in recent years, in that the poor start diminished expectations and the pressure.

Just a few random thoughts:
Since the team plays half its games on the road, then fans booing you (which they would normally do on the road) shouldn't affect people on road games.
I think that fans booing at home could be a part of the "show me the money" approach that Big Stein has taken, in going for the maximum amount of profit. Yes, everyone needs money, but once you make tickets sky high in prices, then many of your most loyal fan base cannot attend those games any further, nor can they afford a family of 4 to go there. Those same people may have either met at Yankee Stadium or been single when they first became stands and could only sit in the bleachers, afford cheap seats and a t-shirt once in awhile.
Instead, you'll find the richer people, some of whom may not have even followed the team back then. It's kind of how when the Knicks during the Patrick Ewing era, always had the A-List stars at courtside, especially when Jordan and the Bulls were in town. Did these people show up at other times? For fans since back in the '70s, could they still afford to go to those games? Same thing in basketball as in baseball, I believe. Has the loyal and dedicated fan been shut out, letting the more vocal fans represent the average Yankee fan on Fox or ESPN?
I believe those newer fans are the ones doing the booing, since before A-Rod got routinely booed, I've never heard of fans booing a star player, and especially never Mariano or Jeter when they failed. Certain things were just understood that they were never done, much like you'd never keep a HR ball hit by an opposing player.
I think that the better players have to adjust to hostile environment, but the home environment still shouldn't be hostile. Like they say about aces on the mound, you tend to black out everything. It certainly helps to have a friendly crowd, but either case, you have to perform and do so well. Please read Baseball Fever Policy and Forum FAQ before posting. 2007-11 CBA

I think that Giambi's contract was the worst, both in terms of years, but he's also got a 2009 option. His defense was questionable, then all mention of the word "steroids" was removed, at his agent's request.
Damon, thankfully, never got the 7 years he'd requested, and was talked down to 4 years. Only because Boston offered 3 years at a lower salary was he even acquired as an FA.
Matsui was good due to his bat. He's now relegated primarily to DH and backup LF, and Alex Rodriguez is too special a player, even if he's overpriced. At least he plays great defense and hits quite well. That's about the most justifiable of the big names brought on in recent years (beginning with Moose for the 2001 season).
Hopefully, no more 45-year-old pitchers will be considered. Please read Baseball Fever Policy and Forum FAQ before posting. 2007-11 CBA

First/ I know that, I have went thru a 10 and 12 year playoff drought as a Yankees fan. I'm more then satisfied with making the playoffs 13 straight years which in itself is quite remarkable. Especially last year.
Second/How would you like it if the investigation was run by a member of the Yankees front office and 4 members of the Red Sox were on it but not a single Yankees player? Red Sox don't resign Donnelly just hours before the Mitchell report was released? Gabe Kapler sitting out a year in his prime while the investigation was going on? Kapler back this year and is having a fine season with Selig's old club the Brewers? Mitchell went after the Yankees like they had bulls eyes on their backs.

Clemens' claims to innocence have been exposed, and he definitely wasn't anyone that Red Sox fans seemed very interested in. The only Red Sox player named was Gagne, and he was only offered arb, and it seemed designed just to get a draft pick, hoping he'd decline.
I'm sure there are many names not mentioned in that report, and I don't believe that you need to play in NYC for you to have used any kind of PEDs.Please read Baseball Fever Policy and Forum FAQ before posting. 2007-11 CBA

Then to beat all every player on the list don't even recieve a slap on the hand!
Run the darn thing right if you're going to dirty the names of players and have some proof more then hearsay before you make the names public. There is thosands of Pratts out there whose main interest in baseball is scandal.

The Yanks have to let Cashman finish his vision.
The problem is that fickle Yankee fans are so spoiled that they just don't have the patience to let young players blossom. And it doesn't help that the NY Media only fuels their fire."After my fourth season I asked for $43,000 and General Manager Ed Barrow told me, 'Young man, do you realize Lou Gehrig, a 16-year-man, is playing for only $44,000?' I said, Mr. Barrow, there is only one answer to that - Mr. Gehrig is terribly underpaid."- Yankees outfielder Joe DiMaggio
