Bartolo Colon has had arn problems for several years, but the Sox took a chance on him, while Cashman refused....Colon signed a minor league contract for 18K monthly. If he did not make the Sox by June 1st, he could opt out. If he did, they would pay him a couple million....Can you magine , the Yanks did not want to risk tip money, Chump change, to see if Colon could still pitch?...Cashman did not hesitate in throwing out many millions on Clemens last year. Its just incredible the way Cashman thinks and acts....I hope Colon gets knocked out in the 1st inning, but that won't change the fact that the Sox have, sadly, better management...Boston dominated the ALin the early years of the last century. We will see the same thing this century unless someone with better management skills gets involved with the Yankees.

its always easy to second guess a situation AFTER the event..Colon was a great pitcher with the White Sox & Angels but hes had arm problems..Cashman probably didnt want to take a chance ( or the heat ) if Colon tanked..NYC media is a b*tchBALLGAME OVER, YANKEES WIN...THEEEEEEEEEEEE YANKEES WIN

There no way for us to how Colon will perform over the course of this season. He may be no better than what he was before his injury.
Anyway, for Cashman to bring in Colon would amounted to abandoning the youth movement. You would have been placing a veteran roadblock in the development of Kennedy and Hughes. If you were going to do that you may as well trade them for Santana.
Back in December when all this was going down would you have wanted to trade Hughes and Kennedy or block their development.Buck O'Neil: The Monarch of Baseball

“If Brian wants to be the G.M. next year, there’s a chance he will be,” Steinbrenner said. “If he doesn’t want to, he won’t be. At this point, do I still want him to be the G.M.? Yeah, I do.”

Sounds like Cashman will be gone.Originally posted by DomenicThe Yankees should see if Yogi Berra can still get behind the plate - he has ten World Series rings... he must be worth forty or fifty million a season.

I'm not a fan of Colon, haven't been since he left Cleveland.
I don't think he would even be a fit for this team."After my fourth season I asked for $43,000 and General Manager Ed Barrow told me, 'Young man, do you realize Lou Gehrig, a 16-year-man, is playing for only $44,000?' I said, Mr. Barrow, there is only one answer to that - Mr. Gehrig is terribly underpaid."- Yankees outfielder Joe DiMaggio

Yank UK- You stated Cash may have not wanted to make a deal for fear of the press? Duquette was GM for quite a few years in Boston. When he said "goodbye" to Clemens, the fans AND PRESS never let him forget it.One hour after the team was sold, he was FIRED for many reasons including Clemens! The Boston press is just as mean spirited as the NY press, although smaller in number.....Did you read my thread completely? If you did, you know it would have only cost 2 months salary @ 18K to decide to keep him . For everyone else who came up with more excuses about endangering the "Youth Movement", how are the Sox destroying their young pitching by having, MASTERSON, LESTER AND BUCHOLTZ on the same team with Colon?...Think again fellas.

Colon would only be a short term effect EVEN if he stayed healthy..the yanks need to think about tomorrow & the future and go with the youth movement...no more buying old players for the quick fix...i would be quite happy to have a few years building with Kennedy, Hughes, Joba etc even if it meant missing the play-offsBALLGAME OVER, YANKEES WIN...THEEEEEEEEEEEE YANKEES WIN

Yank UK- So, you would rather the Yanks missed the PO's for a few years as long as they go with the youth movement and stay away from the old guys?..Spoken like a true Cashman fan....Unfortunately as a fan, you have forgotten that baseball is in the Entertainment BUSINESS, and as such, the junior brothers are not going to be happy putting on an "also ran". There is far too much money to risk the patience of the patrons.....Furthermore, if Colon keeps looking like he did today, with 94-95 mph fastballs, before the seasons end there is a chance even Cashman might wish he got Colon.

Cashman would have been bashed if we signed Colon in my opinion. I think he was just being safe... and we're putting all our faith in these young guys hughes kennedy and joba..
But, I agree and wish that we had taken the chance on Colon. It's going to really really suck if he pans out and helps them down the road, which I think there's about a 50% chance of that happening

As long as the 'youth' can actually play......so far ours haven't and the Red Sox have......why would signing Colon be considered a 'circus'. Signing Colon would have been a cheap protection agianst what has already happened....the young pitchers aren't ready...so now what is being done.....moving Joba to starter quicker then they wanted. That may be construed as a 'circus' move....
