A few years ago I was on the YS tour hosted by the Yankees' perennial tour guide, Tony Morante.
In the clubhouse I asked him why the "NY" was added to the jerseys in 1936. He said it was added in 1939 as a tribute to Jacob Ruppert who died that year. But the "Dressed to the Nines" section of the Hall of Fame site makes it clear I was right and he was wrong. Check it yourself.
Does anyone know why the "NY" was added in 1936? If someone is taking the tour please ask Tony about this again. And cite the HoF site:
