  • When the "NY" added to uni, and Stadium Tour info

A few years ago I was on the YS tour hosted by the Yankees' perennial tour guide, Tony Morante.

In the clubhouse I asked him why the "NY" was added to the jerseys in 1936. He said it was added in 1939 as a tribute to Jacob Ruppert who died that year. But the "Dressed to the Nines" section of the Hall of Fame site makes it clear I was right and he was wrong. Check it yourself.

Does anyone know why the "NY" was added in 1936? If someone is taking the tour please ask Tony about this again. And cite the HoF site:

      Thanks. Tony was wrong.

But I have wondered for years why the logo was added. Whose idea was it??
Ruth never wore a Yankee uniform with the logo on the jersey.

The numbers were added in 1929.

The NY was more readded then added, they wore uniforms with the interlocking NY in about 1915. Why they put it back on I never heard why, probally thought it looked better then the plain uniform Ruth wore.

Maybe it is as simple as Ruppert deciding he wanted it. Maybe we will never know why.
