Wouldn't want to see the team sold. I believe the present ownership cares about winning and will spend what they beleive necessary to win.

I actually don't mind the Steinbrenners. Their money gives us a chance to win. Don't forget the late 90's.

They're not going to sell anytime soon, and as much as I dislike Hank Steinbrenner and the way both him and his father inject themselves into situation that only baseball experts should be handling, I don't want them to sell. Not too many people can afford to buy the Yankees, so there's a really good chance some corporation buys the team and refuses to spend money. I'd rather have an owner that spends money than one that doesn't, regardless of his mouth or the bad deals that sometimes arise from said spending.

I have not forgotten the 98-00 championships.Have you forgotten the fact that those clubs were built by Michael-Watson, not Cashman. Steinbrenner was suspended for a good part of that tme as well....George Steinbrenner is no longer actively involved in the running of the club, and his sons have never been especially interested in baseball...Look, you and other Yankee fans are almost paranoid about changing the management of the club. The fact that CBS ran them into the ground does not mean new owners would do the same. I offered you proof of other successful previous Yankee owners, who won more WS and went to more WS than the Steinbrenners, but you apparently wont accept that...In any event George will be around for many more years and there is no point arguing.
Um, at no point did I mention Cashman. I only said that under Steinbrenner, the Yankees have won a comparably large number of championships. I disagreed with your assertion that Steinbrenner doesn't bring championships based purely on the fact that he was the owner during the 90's dynasty. I never said it was Cashman's doing or that it was because Steinbrenner is a great owner. How you took my post and turned it into that quoted post is odd to say the least. As I said before, I merely contented one point of your argument. I actually agree that Cashman had made many mistakes as GM. But apparently you'd rather create a conflict where there is none and be a hostile poster trying to pick a fight. How about next time you don't completely warp my post, ok?

Do you really think the Stienbrenners are going to sell the Yankees anytime soon? They just made a huge investment with the New Stadium, I doubt they will step away anytime soon not this generation or even the next. Plus who is going to be able or would buy the Yankees? The Stien bros. might not have been that involved in baseball but no way are they walking from a billion dollar company. They also have that same attitude as their dad. Having new owner is a crap shoot, you might get one that wants to win or you might get CBS redux. I would like to have Stick Micheal back making more of the decisions, but management isnt that bad it could be allot worst. Get use to the Stienbrenners, I don't think they are going anywhere for a very long time.

While I'm not going to get into whether Steinbrenner has spent his money well in recent years, I will say you can't use the lack of championship argument. Are you forgetting 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000? Steinbrenner owned the team then too?

Starks- So you are positive that new owners will bleed the cash cow?.....You mean like the Boston franchise? Did they cut their payroll dramatically causing Sox to collapse, or am I imagining their 2 World Series flags in 4 years....You've been spoiled by the huge payroll, which sadly, has'nt done anything but turn the club from a once great franchise to an also ran. Spending big bucks is fine, if you spend it in the right way. Only with qualiied baseball management types and not a loose cannon like Junior, and a confused GM like Cashman will this franchise return to greatness...The Yanks have won most of their WS flags without benefit of the Steinbrenner clan and they can repeat uder better management.

The Steinbrenners are probably the most passionate owners in baseball and they do not care about Payroll. Once a new owner comes in he's knows he has a cashcow on his hands and he's going to cut payroll to maximize profits.

Within 3 years the payroll will go from $200+ million to $150 million. The Steinbrenners not only spend the most money in baseball, they spend the highest percentage of their profits. I would love it if they operated with muzzles on but I don't want their insane competitiveness, and the accompanying money to go away.
