ANAHEIM -- Team USA pulled out what was the first disputed game of the World Baseball Classic when Alex Rodriguez singled up the middle with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Americans a 4-3, come-from-behind victory over Japan.
The U.S. continues the second round with a 10 p.m. ET start against Korea on Monday night and then has two off days before playing Mexico at 7:30 p.m. ET on Thursday.
The game turned on a disputed call in the Japanese half of the eighth inning.
With the bases loaded, two out and Joe Nathan pitching, Akinori Iwamura skied a fly to medium left that was caught by Randy Winn, who was late in his throw to the plate to nab the tagging Tsuyoshi Nishioka.
