  • Down on the Farm: 2012 Edition

Figured I would start the new thread for this year rather then throwing this on to the old one so late.

The AAA Scranton-Wilkes/Barre Yankees who will be playing on the road this year, while PNC Park is rebuilt, will be known as the Empire State Yankees. The ES Yankees will be playing 60 of their 72 home games in Upstate New York this year and with true road games in Syracuse, Buffalo and Rochester they will 84 of 144 games in that area. ES Yankees home games will be broken down thusly: 37 at Frontier Field in Rochester, 10 at Alliance Bank Stadium in Syracuse, 8 at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, 7 at Dywer Stadium in Batavia, 6 at Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo and 4 at McCoy Stadium in Pawtuckett.

There are no other changes for the Yankees farm teams this year.

AAA - Empire State Yankees - Manager - Dave Miley, Hitting coach - Butch Wynegar, Pitching Coach - Scott Aldred
AA - Trenton Thunder - Manager - Tony Franklin, Hitting coach - Tom Slater, Pitching Coach - Tom Phelps
HI A - Tampa Yankees - Manager - Luis Sojo, hitting coach - Justin Turner, pitching coach - Jeff Ware
A - Charleston River Dogs - Manger - Carlos Mendoza, Hitting coach - Greg Colbrunn, pitching coach - Danny Borrell
SSA - Staten Island Yankees - Manager - Justin Pope, hitting coach - Ty Hawkins, pitching coach - Carlos Chantres
R - GCL Yankees - Manager - Tom Nieto, hitting coach Edwar Gonzalez, pitching coach - Jose Rosado

Montero, Brackman and Noesi are gone but we still get a summer of keeping up with the Killer B's, Romine, Sanchez, Williams and a bunch of others.

I look forward to your posts and others with knowledge of the farm teams.

I certainly enjoyed reading the names of coaches...a bit of memory lane just with that. LOL

Minor League first base Jorge Vazquez has supposedly told the president of his winter league team that if he doesnt make the major league squad he will ask for a trade to someone who will put him on the major league roster or his release so he can go over seas.

The Yankees sign 1B/OF Steve Pearce to a minor league deal and plan to use him at 1B in AAA. This goes along with the above of trying to move Vazquez to another team that will give him a chance in the majors. Also after claiming C Craig Tatum yesterday the rumor is they will put him back on waivers to try and sneak him through as he is out of options and can't just be sent to the minors.

Early season minor league assignments. If any one has a South Atlantic League team near them will definetly want to check out the Charleston River Dogs team when they come through with Sanchez, Bichette, Culver, Williams, Gumbs and Ben Gamel.

            Some updates:

            Dellin Betances
pitched on Friday. Even though he only threw 5 innings, I liked that he only walked 1.
            5 Innings - 4 Hits - 2 runs - 6K - 1BB

            Manny Banuelos
pitched today, not a good outing.
            3.1 Innings - 11 Hits - 4 runs - 2K - 1BB

Jose Campos, pitched on Friday as well. Great outing, threw a 1-Hitter!
            6 Innings - 1 Hits - 0 runs - 3K - 1BB

Gary Sanchez, off to a good start. In games 1 and 2, 2 for 3 both games.
"After my fourth season I asked for $43,000 and General Manager Ed Barrow told me, 'Young man, do you realize Lou Gehrig, a 16-year-man, is playing for only $44,000?' I said, Mr. Barrow, there is only one answer to that - Mr. Gehrig is terribly underpaid."- Yankees outfielder Joe DiMaggio

I hope Sanchez and Murphy both make their way up a notch by mid-season.

                ---

                Gary Sanchez:
                .357 AVG - .410 OBP - .874 OPS - 0HR - 6RBI - 5SB

Bill Hall told Ken Rosenthal that he opted out of his Yankee contract rather going to AAA because he didnt want to deal with Scranton's odd schedule this year but is willing to take a minor league contract with another team whose AAA squad actually has a home stadium.

EDIT: Hall has signed a minor league deal with the Orioles.

Nt that losing Hall is a big deal but I do not understand why tehy could not have used Skylands as a makeshift home for this season and possibly next.

The owners of the Sussex County baseball field, one dubbed the 'field of dreams,' are struggling to sell it or find a new baseball tenant

That or the Mets not allowing the Yanks to play in Newark, really irked me. Even with a payment and reciprocity offer.

Some business updates the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees have offically been sold by the PA counties of Lackawanna and Luzerne to the Yankees and the Mandalay Baseball group for $14.6 Million. Ground has been broken on the stadium renovations and everything is expected to be ready to go for next season. There are now rumors that the team may change its name when it returns, possibly back to the Red Barons.

Yankees purchased the contract of INF Jayson Nix from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

With Eric Chavez ailing, the Yanks needed to add some emergency infield depth. Nix was batting .233/.314/.367 at the Triple-A level. He won't carry any fantasy value.

Yankees signed OF Adonis Garcia to a minor league contract.

It was reported back in early March that the A's made an offer of around $16 million to Garcia, but that was clearly way off base. The 26-year-old wound up inking a deal worth just $400,000 on Wednesday with the Yanks. He'll report to extended spring training at some point soon.

How is our pitching doing? Do you think we will see the killer B's or Campos around AS. Changing the name to Red Barons??? Why can't we go back to Clippers or my favorite (if I had 15 M) "Baby Ruths". Red Barons sounds like Snoopy's arch enemy.

Can't be the Clippers because the Columbus Clippers still exist, they are just affiliated with the Indians now instead of the Yankees. Baby Ruth's would be interesting but the article I lifted the info for the early post was saying that part of the reason they want to change the name is because the team is in an area that doesnt really like the Yankees, its more of Phillies country in eastern PA. Plus I'm sure Mars or whoever makes the candy bar would want a nice bit of cash for using the name.

Campos is hurt and was only pitching at low A so even if he was healthy theres just about no way he would have been up at all this season. Manny Banuelos is 0-2, with a 3.15 ERA and 17 Ks after 5 starts in AAA. Dellin Betances has made 7 starts is 2-2 with a 5.20 ERA and 28 Ks. Adam Warren is pitching a little better same record of 2-2 ERA of 4.58 and 25 Ks.
