OK, so my dad (with too much time on his hands) has developed a theory about the YES broadcasts. He seems to think that they are dubbing in sound effects of the ball hitting the catcher's glove. In other words, when the pitch is delivered, there is a thud sound dubbed in by the sound crew to heighten the sound of the ball hitting the glove. He claims he can hear it sometimes when the hitter makes contact. Obviously you wouldn't hear a ball hitting a glove sound when contact is made.
Maybe this has been discussed on here by other conspiracy theorists, but I haven't been able to find it. Does anyone else agree or disagree with this? My theory is that what he's hearing is an aggressive fade in to the catcher/umpire mike when the pitch is delivered. It gives the illusion that a sound effect is being played, when what is actually happening is that you are just hearing the action through another mike all of a sudden. If the sound guy doesn't do it gracefully, it can be annoying. But, I do remember the PGA getting caught adding bird calls to their broadcasts in order to heighten the ambiance. I think they got caught when they added a bird call that was not indigenous to the area, and pissed off some ornithologists that were watching.
Anyway, your thoughts on this silliness?
