  • Old-Timers Day 2012

Pretty good Day, despite the heat. Sat in the shade in sect 414 row 2. Always makes me crazy that the Stadium is 3/4 empty during the OT ceremonies. I think that the player intros go a little long with the career highlights. I do like the video clips on the big board. Kind of sad to see Yogi and Whitey confined to a golf cart, but at least they were there. Where was Posada? Is he going to be another guy like O'neill who insists that he's not an "old-timer" and doesn't come back for years? Watched the YES telecast when I got home. Unfortunately they don't show all the same clips that are shown at the Stadium. They give us the next guest standing on the dugout steps for 30 secs while he's being introduced. Did anybody notice that Jill Martin gave Yogi a kiss but ignored Whitey? I don't know why the Yanks have her there. Her and Billy drank and fought a lot during their brief marriage and I don't think that she's well-liked. Lastly, John Sterling does a very good job with the intros, as does Michael Kay. Why can't Sterling do a decent, classy telecast on the radio?
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to Yankee Stadium. Here are the lineups for todays game...

I watched everything on YES. Loved it all. The carts really made those intros, I dunno, anti-climactic. Besides, Rickey and Reggie and Goose don't need damned carts!

I wish Graig Nettles would come to the festivities. I wasn't alive during his career, but always liked him.

Yogi is 87 and uses a wheelchair and walker. Whitey is 83. I don't have a prob with them in the golf cart. The other guys should have been introduced from the dugout. You're right about Nettles, wish he was there.

Yeah, I'm not going to force either of them, or Coleman for that matter, to walk from the dugout, but the others are more than able to walk on two feet.

We should look into why Nettles wasn't there. Maybe he left the Yanks on bad terms?

Probably not. According to the internet, he was there in 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2011.

Oh, then it must've been availability.
