  • I need some tips for a NY trip

Hey guys. I'm going to visit NY with a friend in october. Since I'm from europe I don't come often over there.

Of course I know the common places that I have to visit (museums, Empire state building, central park, statue of liberty...) but do you have some additional cool things to do that is not written in every tourists guide? (maybe even baseball related although my friend is not a fan)

also is there a possibility to get yankees tickets (I guess the mets won't be playing baseball in oct.) on that short notice or is everything sold out already?
I now have my own non commercial blog about training for batspeed and power using my training experience in baseball and track and field.

      Dom, there's a link that by Sticky'd.

      Give it a look.
"After my fourth season I asked for $43,000 and General Manager Ed Barrow told me, 'Young man, do you realize Lou Gehrig, a 16-year-man, is playing for only $44,000?' I said, Mr. Barrow, there is only one answer to that - Mr. Gehrig is terribly underpaid."- Yankees outfielder Joe DiMaggio

I recommend the Hispanic Society in upper Manhattan is free and has an excellent collection of coins and Spanish/Portuguese artwork.
The New York Public Library on 42nd Street in midtown has tours and an actual Gutenberg bible on display.
I like the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria which is free after 4PM on Friday.
I also like the Brooklyn Museum and the Museum of the City of New York.
Avoid the South Street Seaport and Times Square, both are tourist traps.

        That's not funny.

The Mets have the best, smartest fans in baseball.

Doesnt Mets have 2 or 3 regular season games left in October?

Three games in Miami against the Marlins. R.A. Dickey scheduled to pitch on the last day of the season.

I didn't know you lived in Europe, what part? Glad to see how many Yankee fans there are all over the world.

Wanna hear something funny? I have lived in Staten Island, NY all my life. I haven't been to a museum since I was about 6, don't recall ever going to the Empire State Building or Central Park, and have never been to the Statue of Liberty, nor have I ever seen a Broadway show.

I went to NY for a game last Saturday. We tried something different and reserved a parking spot online the day before that was about a 1/2 mile from the Stadium. Not only was it cheaper (around $15), but there was almost no wait getting out after the game. When I was at Game 6 of the '09 ALCS, it took us 1 1/2 hours just leave the garage. Add another 4 hours for the trip home; it was quite the night (but completely worth it).

Of course, if you are not driving in from out of town, it is less of an issue. The subway couldn't be more convenient.

I'm not really a yankees fan. but I really like NY, have been there in 07. people seemed really nice and a lot of things to do. one of the coolest things was a comedy club. they really made some uncorrect jokes.

I'm from germany BTW. unfortunately we have cancelled our trip to NY because we didn't really find and offer in our price range on short notice. we plan to go there next spring so I also got more time to get some tickets.

Interesting idea. We went on Sunday and parked downtown near Little Italy. Took the subway up and back. Grabbed dinner at the Feast afterwards.

Having lived in NY(not the city) for 35 years, my advice would be bring a gun. But since todays society does not like anyone defending themselves, the best advice, considering that you have already done the trip and this advice is late, I could have given you was be very careful.

Kind of stereotypical. I live in Staten Island and I don't see crime period (knock on wood).
